Will the upset help or hurt DAZN??

I initially felt like AJ getting dethroned (some would say "exposed" even) would be a massive hit to dazn because he's their 2nd biggest star.
But, giving it further thought, it's probably going to help it. AJ wasn't really a draw in the US yet and they don't need dazn to see him in the UK.

Seems to me this is a sacrificial win for the subscription service because it adds some excitement and credibility.

It won’t make a bit of difference in my opinion.

As you said no casual fan in America really knows AJ and now the ones who do or will in the future will know him as the bodybuilder who got sparked by the fat Mexican kid.

Maybe a few more Mexican Americans that weren’t sold on just Canelo will try out the DAZN app to catch the New Mexican heavyweight champion fight though.

It's a discussion for the dudes on your side of the Atlantic I think, but I'm struggling to see how it would benefit DAZN... might not hurt it too badly either though, dudes need to focus on the fact that DAZN and matchroom ain't the same thing just cos Slick Eddie is the face of both. In fact it might be best for DAZN to draw more of a line between their US operations and the British slant brought to the service by having Hearn as it's face and his promotion as such a major player... at least, maybe to concentrate more on putting on the best fights between their US fighters.

        I agree with you
That’s why I was asking in another thread if this was Hearn’s last draw with Dazn
I personally think that Dazn would benefit from this if they were to change the face of their promo
Hearn is just a bad fit for North America imo

Presumably they're going to show a fight later this year which:
          - Is a rematch of an event that made worldwide news
          - Features an American/Mexican fighter
          - Is for unified World Titles

          Not too bad for them.

if Ruiz was signed with DAZN, Id agree. But if Ruiz wins the rematch, he takes those belts to Showtime/Fox.

and to answer OP's question, it's still a fringe app. Nobody was watching tonight unless they were already big boxing fans. it had no value to American casuals.

They seem to have been distancing themselves from Eddie more since Oscar came over with Canelo.

This crappy two fight card where both of Eddie's golden geese taking L's (Katie should have, no debating Joshua) it's not a good look.

Ruiz ain't signed with DAZN or Matchroom US has he? Can't see why he'd be fighting on DAZN unless maybe for a Joshua rematch.. my guess is that Wilder - Ruiz on SHO suddenly became the hot ticket though.

I’m guessing since there is a rematch clause that of course it would have to be on DAZN and the Mexican American fans can sign up for the trial offer to check out the rematch.

That is of course if DAZN is still offering a trial subscription.

I believe Ruiz wins the rematch and then the belts will go to Showtime with a big New Mexican heavyweight champion.

Idk that AJ had much value to US fans yet for this L to be as nuts & shocking like it is to most of us hardcore fans to the people DAZN is still trying to get sub'd to their service.

I do believe Joshua's future being in doubt & largely riding on a avenging of his L in a rematch hurts DAZN, but I do think there is extra appeal now for Mexican fans, the base of US fans, to get DAZN between Canelo & a Mexican HW champ. If Canelo didn't get you buying DAZN previously this crazy effing upset just might. So it might all equal out.

I'd be curious if DAZN tries to steer that angle a lil more by offering Ruiz a exclusive deal prior to the Joshua rematch.
