I'd say most American fans are far from nationalistic when it comes to boxing and will watch all competitive fights.

This card is basically showcasing UK talent to a cynical American DAZN audience. I don't think that's what the fans were expecting.
Estrada v Rungvisai? How many watched that in the US? It wouldn't have been constructed a PPV fight would it?

And do you think the average casual fan was talking about it in the build up?

I'm not saying Americans are that nationalistic, though you'd have to agree that a US fighter would boost ratings?

I think we're ignoring that the interest just isn't there generally. I don't blame Wilder for his poor TV numbers last week - I blame lack of interest in boxing.

And by the same token, I'm not using it as a stick to beat Joshua with.

Bold 1: Definitely. What big names can they get? Did Hearn even get Russell?

Bold 2: Excuse my ignorance but what's this push to make Joshua a star in the US? I thought he was already the greatest in the UK.

I don't follow Joshua or Wilder. I don't get it. Neither is close to amazing, skill wise. Not sure Eddie Hearn's wild imaginations would materialize for Joshua.

DAZN doesn't release numbers but the first fight did well on HBO

I wouldn't call 900k on showtime a poor ratings going against NBA playoffs in a fight that was over in less then a round

We know what the push is for don't we?

A small percentage of fans in the US is worth more money than a big percentage of the UK. There's a huge population difference.

And the future Wilder fight could be a major event that draws fans and casuals in as well as people who wouldn't usually pay attention.

But any other fight is going to be 'meh'. Boxing fans will watch, casuals might be aware of it, general public won't know it's happening.

THERE ya go boss. Pretty much the long and short of it.

The reality is, it's all subjective. If you ask a bunch of Americans or Wilder fans, that spend a measure of time criticizing or being cynical on a forum, about something that has to do with the UK or Joshua, I'm not expecting a very positive response. It's basically an invitation for a variety of backhanded digs and propoganda. If you participate on this forum, or know who Deontay Wilder is, you're friggin following this fight in some way, shape, or form. Now if "Buzz" = money and all things money, I don't know, but again...subjective.

You're totally right, nobody really watches boxing though. For those Americans that do, the majority are anti-Anthony Joshua. That camp is trying to grow his notoriety in the US...exposure.
Would a different undercard makeup have helped for this fight ? Most likely, but it's the undercard, n people don't generally go for the undercards. Would the original opponent NOT getting popped for 3 banned substances have helped ? Sure. Would an Anthony Joshua fight with Euros on the undercard have more "buzz" in the UK ? Ummm. LOL. Defeats the whole purpose of what they're trying to do, doesn't it ?

Who knows, it probably won't be as successful as they hoped. Rarely is. Buzz for a fight featuring a UK star, an opponent that probably won't do too much, and an undercard that the general public is clueless about, will be about what you'd expect.
I think the original question was, "Are you looking forward to it?" Uh. It's boxing right ? I like 4 fights this weekend. Last weekend it was 7. UK, USA, Thailand, Mexico, China, Canada, Latvia, Australia, South Africa, Philippines... I'll be checking the live feeds like every week.
Personally, I don't have one friend that I can talk to about the sport of boxing. NFL ?...heck yeah. MLB ?...sure. NBA ?...pretty much. But boxing ? Pffft. Nobody follows boxing...really follows, anyway.
