Comments Thread For: Leonard, Duran Have Different Views on Current State of Boxing

Bitter rivals turned friends, Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard are cornerstones of a golden era of boxing. Along with Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns, Duran and Leonard formed the "Four Kings" who reigned over boxing's welterweight and middleweight divisions throughout much of the 1980s.

The problem today is too many boxing associations and irrelevant championship belts. Canelo like many Mexicans were cheats.

If SRL was coming up today he'd have signed some huge deal with HBO & recently with DAZN probably & he'd be as handcuffed or limited with opponent selection as everyone else.

These old timey guys who don't understand the structure of the sport today & act like they'd just come in & wreck the status quo are humerous to me.

SRL would be like Devin Haney coming up today. He might try to play rogue player, but he'd get an offer he couldn't refuse at a certain level & then the next day he'd almost immediately be getting talked about in title shots & mando fights just like Haney did (not that it worked out all the way with Devin, but sounded like the WBC playing un-ABC standard games & effed up the plan). Its almost like you gotta be with a major promoter or player to get big fights or something lol.

If he had signed with dazn he wouldn’t be Leonard. Leonard fought at a time when boxing was more accessible to the public, he fought at a time when we saw him on 7uo commercials on free tv, he was everywhere because boxing was as promoted right, boxers were athletes just like football players and baseball players. Boxing today has been taken away from the eyes of the people and outfits like dazn seem to make it even less accessible to the public. Sugar Ray was Sugar Ray because everyone knew him in America.

People can say some of the dumbest _hit on here

The question is where do you see boxing today or what problems are boxing events having today and that's not a fair question for guys who didn't have all the organizations of today nor the cable networks involved the way they are today. The fighters today want the most money for the least risk so no pressure is placed on management to get me a certain fighter no matter what! I only see a few fighters whom will fight whoever. In the meantime yah need to save all those ****** comments for another sport or don't say _hit.

The top fighters not fighting each other, cherry picking and ducking for years and waiting fighters out till the fade then taking the fight.

Yes, that is the Mayweather Legacy.
