Absolutely right. Prime years for any boxer are age 25 to age 30. Age 37 is well past prime for any boxer be it GGG, Pacquiao or Mayweather. They may still be excellent and nearly unbeatable but they are not prime.

It's not convenient to assume somebody 35 years old is no longer in their prime, especially if they're not a 240lb heavyweight or Bernard Hopkins



Dude, The Floyd that beat Diego Corrales was the absolute best that Floyd ever was.

It's one of the greatest performances ever and that was a hell of a lot earlier than 36



Very few athletes of any sport are at their prime at 36, as the version of him who beat Chico Corrales is generally accepted as his greatest performance.

Floyd's no exception, he was just so much better than everyone else that even at weights that he wasn't at his best at and past his prime, he was still dominating as hell, like Jordan.

Jordan was past his prime once he started winning championships in the NBA, but he was that much better than everyone else that most people didn't notice.

Diff subject but Jordan was still prime until he was on his 3rd ring but we got to stop acting like he didn't have a all star supporting cast. If he didn't he wouldn't have won much past those 2-3 rings..

It's different for different boxer's depending on how many years you've been pro and punishment taken along the way.. No one is prime at 36 but if you've taken care of yourself your in your prime until around age 33 or so..

Keep in mind most top boxer's today are around or over 30.

I disagree that trout is trash hes among my favorite fighters because he has fought everyone & ducked nobody back to back to back. Trout just fought harder hitting opponents like charlo/Canelo but he was once a very skillful boxer at jmw at least.

Agreed! He did forget Lara though, but Lara was not an ATG either. Who did Lara beat? Lara was very good at a few things but lacked power, variety, punch output, body work, punch resistance, etc etc. There's a reason he struggled with guys like Carlos Molina who he should not have struggled against.

And Canelo did poorly in that fight anyway.

That's what Canelo does. He does pretty well, not great, vs prime A- or B+ opponents, like Lara, or former A- now B+ smaller guys like Cotto, or he does pretty well vs guys who used to be A-level like GGG but now declined and are no longer better than A-.

That's what Canelo is. An A- type of guy. Like Lara, he does certain things spectacularly, but not enough of them, and his punch output is limited too.

The problem with Jacobs is, at his peak he was an A- guy too, and now he's probably not in his prime either. He says he's the only one but he's 32. That's when most guys start declining even ones who have been healthy their entire careers, and who don't overly drain themselves to stay at one weight class their entire careers, and dont have to do rehydration clauses.

So I'd question whether Jacobs is any more in his prime at this point than GGG was when GGG fought Canelo and Jacobs. But other than that, and forgetting about Lara, I agree with his overall point.

These debates need more post like these.
