Ortiz value in the June Joshua fight is far greater than it was for the Wilder fight.

    1. He is a late sub which will save the event.
    2. He brings much more credibility than Miller.
    3. He is Cuban and will bring more fans than any other sub.

Should Ortiz take less than Miller to make a better event? Not saying he got offered less but for now the last word on this issue is that Eddie lowballed them.
I'll give you point 2. But that only matters to genuine boxing fans. And we're the minority of viewers.

Point 1 isn't true. The fight isn't contingent on Ortiz signing, as you'll shortly see. It will go ahead if it's Ruiz, or Hunter, or anyone remotely relevant. They'll find someone willing to take a career high payday. People will pay to watch Joshua in a title fight.

Point 3 doesn't matter to the people who will drive the money. A Cuban amateur background means something to me, but I'm in the absolute minority. It's certainly not a bigger draw for the masses than an undefeated local with a big mouth.

Wilder needed a credible opponent. He had literally never faced anyone of note. Ortiz had value to Wilder in that fight. And he was worth $0.5M.

Joshua has a CV. There's no-one available right now who is enhancing it one bit.

Lastly, we don't know what the offer was to determine if it was too low. In any case, that's Ortiz' decision. He determines his worth on an absolute basis - ie he accepts a number or rejects it.

    • Of course they will low ball any real threat like Ortiz and Whyte and Wilder and Fury. Hearn even low balled Miller. Dazn had to step in and pay part of Millers salary or that would not have happened either. They should have Aj fight a punching bag for 36 minutes and see how many tickets they sell.

      • I think Ortiz has become content being fed with bums by Haymon now.

I agree he is back on peds and fight came at wrong time.

Also it does not matter what AJ gets it is what you are paid, but not in comparison to AJ. Thus 3 mil, 4 mil 5 mil are all good paydays and who else are you going to fight for that money with a world title on the line.

Ortiz should have been first in the queue saying pay me the same as Miller and I will fight; then the pressure is on Hearn especially AJ mentioned Ortiz as first replacement. Now Ortiz might never get a chance to fight AJ again.

Hunter or Ruiz...I think we might get Ruiz

          • I need to see the numbers just cuz he got 500k vs Wilder dont mean he should accept anything for AJ who makes 20mill. If Wilder was making close to AJ i doubt he woulda accepted that 500k so no point in bringing that up.

            Show the numbers ......

            • The amount offered actually means nothing. Let's assume it was only $1m which is really low, it is still more than he has made before.

The actual real offer and the one that matters is he was given the chance to fight for most of the HW title belts. If he beat Joshua he would make so much in his future fights. If he even gave a good fight and lost narrowly he could have made a lot from a rematch.

The reality is Ortiz is nearing retirement and these chances are not likely to happen again. He won't get a title shot off the back of wins against the likes of hammer.

If he takes a risky fight to become mandatory against someone like Whyte, Povetkin, Parker etc he stands a good chance of losing. And that means bye bye title shot.

For Ortiz this should have been the best thing that could of happened. Fight the current number 1 in the world for the belts. Win. Set up a rematch with Wilder for a mega ton of money.
Or worst case scenario get battered and put into retirement. But you leave a millionaire and someone who lost to 2 champions. There is no shame in that.

If he wants $6m+ for a fight for all of AJ titles at a sold out MSG he needs to earn that. He hasn't done that and fighting nobodies won't get him closer to it.

So this looks like a duck. Based on someone poorly advising him.

Joshua has a CV to British fans. The whole point of fighting in the US is to build his profile there. So to presume this event goes as planned with just any cab driver would presumptuously inaccurate. Further, a KO win over Ortiz enhances his CV.
Not everyone is smitten with AJ and his previous opponents.

Point 3 does matter and it matters a lot. Just like Miller being from NY mattered. Point 1 remains valid as this event monetarily will flop if subscribers aren't attracted and mass refunds are requested. Recall DAZN is overpaying to hopefully get more subscribers.

No, Whyte blocked it himself by asking for 40% and a rematch clause his way even though he's just a contender being given a voluntary.

He's following the moves the biggest coward in boxing makes. Thank Deontay for all of this. But i'm sure you're very happy to see AJ not get the fights that matter because you're a poisonous little toad who is full of spite like the rest of the scum over your way.
