There is no way to know how it affects people subconsciously. Kovalev didn't intentionally destroy that guy.
If you accidentally ran over a dog, would you be unable to drive your brand new dream car which you worked so hard for years to finally get?
    Come on..
And if Kovalev were in the same position again, with a fight in the bag , would he hold off? Maybe he subconsciously did that vs. Ward in the first fight and got robbed as a result.

As far as Gvozdyk goes, same thing. The object is to knock the opponent out. What happened to Stevenson was an accident. And again there is no way to know how he is subconsciously affected. Some said he looked less aggressive than usual vs. Ngumbu ...

and remember this, Gvozdyk takes the same risk personally as his opponent every time he gets in the ring , even in sparring.

Unfortunately fighters do die occasionally. Thankfully it's rare, and the ringside doctors and paramedics are top quality these days. I would fight on, because, like others have said, fighters know the risks and still choose to take part.

I don't think I would be able to fight anymore, it would be in the back of my mind that it could possibly happen again and I would feel too guilty about it and feel so bad for the family.

I would say it depends, for example:

If I was to fight one of the classless Mf's, Hell Yeah! With a *******!

Otherwise, you are right, the average person isn't ready for that kind of violence and cannot come to terms with it.
Im sure your training makes you much more likely to be able to pull trigger no doubt, but even those who have trained at those levels have either not be able to do it or not live with it.No doubt though training for American soldiers(and others I suppose)esp at your level has improved even at that very problem and im sure its pretty rare at that level for someone to freeze for lack of better word.

In the army I didn't care about repercussions we were doing our job, and when we walked the fine line, we took care of things in house and the public and greater "big army" never knew about it.

In a boxing ring, it's about as fair as you can get, so I always shake hands, touch gloves, etc, there is no bad blood that extends beyond the actual fight.
Yea I agree a boxing match is different its a sporting event though I will admit to not liking touching hands every rd,bfore and after is good enough lol.Btw thx for your service.

Every fighter knows there is a possibility of killing or getting killed in the ring. Most Special Ops Solider hardly kill someone one because they are usually behind enemy lines getting intel they have the discipline to conceal and avoid firefights cause they know a group of 3 to 12 guys are not going to beat a village of 100's shooting at them. They will engage in firefights if thats the last result
