Yes because that is my mentality as a fighter. I see it as a kill or be killed thing, not a sport. I would go there trying to catch bodies for real. Im a maverick, Im a savage.
If you permanently damaged someone in the ring, would you fight again?

That doesn't apply to everyone, especially people in the special ops community like myself, and seal units. And yet many still do.Unless you have permanently damage a guy or worse killed him you will never know.Even if you have been trained to do so.I remember hearing/reading a story about how many soldiers in civil war that pretended to shoot weapons because they could not pull trigger they would not reload. Also the story talked about WW2 and Vietnam and still same kinda thing was going on they realized they needed to train guys different but still had guys who just could not do it.
You are probably referencing the book On Killing, and in that book they remind readers several times that there are exceptions, and the majority of people who are exceptions are from that community.
Not trying to argue or anything just trying to inform.
Otherwise, you are right, the average person isn't ready for that kind of violence and cannot come to terms with it.Comment

The main difference here is in street fights, the legal repercussions matter, most definitely to me. And I wouldn't shake hands in a bar or street fight either, a good way to get shanked.I get what your saying and looked at any fight I was in ring/street the same way but unless you have hurt/killed a guy you can NEVER know.I was never a soldier and maybe you have been in such situations but if not no amount of training can guarantee you will pull trigger when you have to unless like I said you have done it.One rule I always had in the street was to NEVER shake hands after. Down the road ok but NEVER right after ive even had to tell 1-2 guys who wanted to after that if you get in arms reach your gonna get hit I will leave you alone if your done but don't come close RIGHT after or im gonna let hands go.
In the army I didn't care about repercussions we were doing our job, and when we walked the fine line, we took care of things in house and the public and greater "big army" never knew about it.
In a boxing ring, it's about as fair as you can get, so I always shake hands, touch gloves, etc, there is no bad blood that extends beyond the actual fight.Comment

^This. People who don't have money, power, etc love to talk about what they would do with it and how they would act. It's different being in the scenario and feeling the burden of responsibility on your shoulders.Comment

This. I broke my friend's arm with an armbar. He didn't tap out. I felt bad when he came to school in a sling the next day.
As for fighting professionally though; I wouldn't feel bad for one second. It's nust like any other sport. These things can and do happen unfortunately.Comment

That happened to Gabriel Ruelas. Killed a dude in the ring, he himself was never the same after taking a life.Comment

My answer is yes, but I wont know for sure till that happens. But someone like myself im not overly sensitive or over think situations, so if my oppenent got hurt it just one of those things that happened, sucks but is what it is and Ill just keep on fighting with no real regrets or issues imo.Comment
