Should refs/boxing do away with making fighters walk around after a knockdown?

I know it's for the safety of the fighter, but some of these refs give waaaaaay too much time for a fighter to walk around. I can only imagine how many fighters who were down on the scorecards needing a KO to win end up missing their golden opportunity to put away an opponent while he is out on his feet and has not fully come to his senses only for the ref to give the fighter some crucial seconds to recover.

That was the fighters only chance to put his opponent away right then! But since the ref is giving extra time, that split second of opportunity has now disappeared!!!

What the hell is the point of counting to 10 if you're going to give them 4-5 even 6 seconds to walk around???????

Does anyone else think walking around after beating the count needs to be done away with?

I agree. This is a hard knock sport. You're up you're up. Time to get back to the fight.

If the fighter is getting up and passing the ref's quick test then the onus is on you for not hitting him hard enough.

Boxing is the gentlemans sport. The whole point of the 10 seconds to get to your feet is to keep it honorable. Ever watch vikings or any of those medieval shows with duels? One guy loses a sword and the other will hang back and let him get a spare. Same thing with boxing, otherwise why not just add a ground and pound if you are so afraid of letting a guy recover a bit.

If the fighter's safety is in question then he's probably in no condition to continue and the fight should be stopped. I remember referees asking fighters to give them their hands, talk to them, walk towards them, etc. But this whole walking to the corner and then the other side is excessive and ridiculous in my view.

Its a tough question. Obviously for the safety of the athletes you should stop a fight as soon as its determined a fighter can't intelligently defend themselves/compete & this protocol helps with that.

Thing is by doing that for the health of the guys unfit to continue you give the guys fit to continue more time to recover.

Idk that there is a right answer here so I'm more of the stance we lean towards safety.

Although that said there is an argument that by letting the hurt but not hurt enough to stop the fight guy recover you are gonna be allowing that guy to get hurt again later on in some cases. And as most of us know some of the most risky situations with brain injuries are from a guy getting dinged once, continuing & getting dinged again.

So what move IS safer? Idfk.

            Tough f#cking question.

It’s for safety reason and I dont have an issue with it as long as the ref doesnt allow a fighter to walk around the ring for minutes at a time and sht.

This. As barbaric as the sport is, boxers still need to be protected and their health should come first.

                  No

If they do there is a much bigger chance of fighters receiving unnecessary punishment. Your face can hide if you're still badly hurt, but your legs can't.

I guess you want them to go back to the days where a fighter is floored and the other can stand right over them and as soon as their knees leave the floor they can start hitting them again
