I think those few seconds were extremely crucial.
Why did the ref give Fury a few seconds to walk around after getting knocked down?

Because he told both fighters before the fight that if a fighter gets dropped, he'll make them take a step to the left or right and back to him, to see if the fighter was able to follow instructions to continue.
It's no different a ref taking a few steps back and telling the fighter to walk towards him, which always happens.
Wilder would've been asked to do that too if he had been dropped.
Fury never seemed that hurt when he got up anyway, so i don't think an extra 3 seconds walking to the left made a difference to him. It was a big knockdown but i always felt he and others are playing it up for dramatic effect, like he come back from the dead. He laid down, composed himself, got up and won the rest of the round. He even said himself he laid down for a few seconds to not get up too quick incase his legs didn't look right and they stopped him. He was lucid all the way through that.
That's why i think he wasn't as hurt as it looked or people think. Walking to the left for a few seconds isn't going to give you enough recovery to control the rest of the round. You can only do that if you're senses are still there and you feel ok.Last edited by EasternEuroFan; 03-31-2019, 08:57 AM. -

To see if Fury got his legs back. If Fury would have wobbled there or been unsteady...he would have probably stopped the fight. Refs do it all the time, it's nothing special.Comment

That's totally normal.
You see referees ask guys questions after the count all the time.
"Do you want to continue?"
"Are you alright?"
"Show me your gloves."
"Walk toward me."
That was a perfectly normal count and continuation. Wilder got exposed, and his fans are looking for excusesComment

It's something they've been doing more of lately.
The Ref who did it during the Washington/Kownacki fight should have been suspended. Gave him an extra twenty seconds, then let a (badly) hurt Washington get his head knocked off.Comment
