I doubt klitschko will be coming back. If he does, all the power to him but doubt he could compete with the champs at this stage.

Wilder wins his title when Klitschko isn't even available, and Shelly Finkel (who managed both fighters), said Wilder wouldn't be rushed straight to Klitschko, that he'd make two quick title defenses first. Nothing unreasonable about that. Hearn did the same thing with Joshua. Two quick defenses before his first big defense.

After Wilder's two quick defenses, he did a lengthy interview with Forbes demanding to fight Klitschko after the Fury fight. This was Finkel's master plan. A unification in 2016 on Showtime PPV after Klitschko's HBO contract was expired. Had Klitschko beat Fury, he would have then made an IBF mandatory in early 2016 to burn off his HBO deal while Wilder made a mandatory. Then they'd be free to do a trilogy together on Showtime PPV without mandatories in the way.

Great plan. Except, Klitschko lost. Certainly not Wilder's fault. Wilder was never offered a Klitschko fight and couldn't have fought him in 2015 anyway as Klitschko was stuck with HBO and there was a lot of pressure from the orgs to get caught up on mandatories as all three were over due because the Jennings fight was a voluntary.

Yes yes yes, unification trumps mandatory, but Finkel wasn't going to put his two fighters together if the winner was going to be instantly stripped of three titles heading into the rematch.

Lose-lose for Wilder. If Wilder wins then all he did was beat a retired, old, ex-champ who had already lost to the other two big time heavies. If Wilder loses....well then thats obviously really bad

I appreciate your explanation but still his manager stating he was a "baby" and a "prospect" when the man was a 30 yo champion adds some weight to the thought that they thought he would badly lose to Klitschko.

Looked like a bag of excuses to me, pretty much hinging upon speculation and one single interview (which no one ever links proving how obscure it is at best) where Wilder tentatively calls out Wladimir.

At the end of the day, in 11 years as a pro, Wilder has one good win in over 40 fights. To be in the game for that long without fighting either of the Klitschko brothers is an indictment on how Wilder has been carefully protected thus far.

Wilder didn't pick up his first pair of boxing gloves until he was 19. A lot of top pros start at 6 or 7 years old. So when Wilder won the title at 29, he was still a baby in boxing terms. That'd be like some guys winning a title at 17 years old in terms of how long they'd been boxing.

Win or lose is irrelevant. Finkel controlled both sides. He just needed Klitschko's HBO contract to expire and get some mandatories cleared. Klitschko vs Wilder was definitely the plan for 2016. There was nothing wrong with Finkel being honest and saying he wanted to get Wilder a couple quick defenses before heading towards a unification.

And Finkel kept his word. Wilder got his two quick defenses over with before Klitschko/Fury even took place. The only thing that ****ed things up was Klitschko losing.

Now the picture is getting clearer. The reason why Wladimir hasn't signed with DAZN thus far is because he wants to challenge Deontay Wilder for the WBC title. I am all in. I say sign him up. It would be a very interesting fight.

What are you babbling on about.? If Eddie Hearn stated “we are not ready for Wilder AJ is still a prospect you don’t just throw a prospect in at the deep end “ what is there to contest he obviously feels AJ is not ready......
