Most overated fighter of this era . Fought bums all the way . Was trying to fight the smaller weaker cotto a ,he was willing to fight against Chavez and froch at 168 but wanted a catchwreight of 164 against ward . Ward didn't wait around for GGG he moved up to 175 for a fight against Kovalev ward took risks . GGG called out Canelo and waits for Canelo,Canelo is the one who steps to middleweight once again another fighter who actually takes risks . As soon as the middleweight division is filled with good fighters GGG's only focus is Canelo and always has been. He gives up his belt ibf to avoid his dangerous mandatory in derevyanchenko to fight Canelo he goes ask for "Mexican style " and gets backed up by the smaller man dosent do mexican style . He comes back signs with dazn says he wants to fight the best the best and says he would still fight Canelo if Canelo loses the Jacobs once again still after Canelo he is obsessed with Canelo his entire career revolves around him . In his next few fights he is just gonna bum bash his next 4 four fights . He is rates #2 best middleweight by espn he is the most overated fighter of this generation. Never moved up will always obsess with Canelo . Even in his grave he will be obsessed with Canelo. Best record( one controversial draw one controversial loss both against canelo another controversial win against Danny Jacobs (refuses to rematch) best name and officall win David Lemieux or Kell Brook . So get mad if you want or don't . He never took risks was never about it .(154-168) never happened ducked Lara ,Andrade ,Ward,Charlo ,Derevy Derevyancheno, most overated boxer of this generation. Fighters will get overrated. Look at Jones, Tyson and Ali. There fans will talk like they're the best ever. All-time greats (kinda), but no where near what their fans make them out to be.

With Golovkin, he hasn't fought great competition. A lot of that isn't his fault. But he does look good on film. Better than almost any other Middleweight we have footage of. Guys like Walker and Monzon probably beat him. But everyone else looks like they'd drop a UD.

So cut it how you like it: nothing special about his record, but on film he looks very, very good.

Go research Monzon and Hagler. Take note of how many lighter weight fighters they both fought that moved up. I rate Hagler as one of the elite Middleweights ever but the money was in facing Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Mugabi etc.

And what does any of that mean?

• He won the title. It doesn't matter if you think his opponent was worthy of being champ or not. Then he set the record for title defenses in the division.
• He had a couple of close fights against the best in the division and arguably won them all. Big deal.
• Hagler never fought outside of the division. Does that make him overrated too?
• He gave up his belt to make $35M against the #1 guy in the division. He took the toughest fight he could and it's life-changing money.

But none of that will matter to you because you'll never listen to reason. There's no reason to debate it because it's like trying to debate a 9/11 conspiracy theorist or an anti-vaxxer. It's not worth my time or effort.

I would say he is overrated for the praise he gets from his die-hard fans who think he is P4P greatness, and I would say he is underrated by his haters who think he is a hype-job. He is an accomplished amateur and he was avoided by several fighters between 154-160. Cotto didn't want to fight him when he won the title from Martinez, Canelo wasn't ready even though he was a MW champ after defeating Cotto, and Martinez certainly didn't want any part of him either.

If GGG is the most overrated fighter of this generation then what does that make Canelo who got we can argue was gifted a draw and a win in their fights? The fact that they are so evenly matched would suggest that Canelo would be just as overrated if not moreso.

He's one of the most obsessed over fighters from his fans to his haters. It's bizarre. I think both sides are wrong on him. He's not the messiah and one of the best ever but he's not a bum and a coward. He's been a very good fighter, mostly avoided during his prime and still competitive (IMO and most other neutral opinions he's unbeaten) at an advanced age points to him being good at least in his prime.

The idea that he "refuses" to re-match Jacobs is a strange one that the OP suggested. The Canelo fight was always going to be the one and it was the immediate fight after Jacobs and then a re-match was signed, which Canelo cheated so it got postponed and then by the time the re-match happened Canelo was fighting Jacobs, which Jacobs obviously wasn't going to turn down so I am confused on when the re-match should have happened.
