I think it still has resonance.

The champ is typically the A side. They've had more influence over everything from location to ring size to judge selection. They've probably got more fans cheering their every shot.

You might get the close decision you deserve, but if you leave it to chance then don't be surprised if it doesn't go your way.

That's what it means to me.

Modern day translation = "If you don't knock the champ out in his hometown, you lose"

Fighters don't "leave it to chance" man, they give their 100% on the ring, they can barely breath and move after the fight is finished. They're ****ing tired. No one deserves to be robbed.

If you don't "take it from the champ" it's already considered in the rules. If the fight goes to a draw, the champ remains the champ.

Fights are decided on round by round.

If a round is close will you score it for the champ because he's the champ? no...

So what more do you want? the champ already has the nod.
In almost every sport, when something is close, the star or champion often gets the benefit of the doubt. It's in the best interest of all sports to protect stars. Stars are what attract the public. So fair or not, if you want to replace the previous star, you have to separate yourself and remove any doubt as to who is superior.

As I already explained... that is already considered when the champion remains the champion in case of draw... so anything else is bull shiet.

I understand what you're saying and I agree with you, but what I'm explaining is that often in a very close round, the champion or star gets the benefit of the doubt, fair or not. No different than Michael Jordan or Lebron James getting fewer fouls called against them than others would and getting more fouls called against their opponents than others would.

It's a business. There is a lot of money at stake. It's important to protect the stars. You're looking at things in a very idealistic way and I understand completely. The powers that be however are motivated by money, not ideal.

Yes, I know it's corruption. I'm just explaining it for those who repeat this phrase.

Corruption is a matter of opinion. Professional sports are entertainment. Like pro wrestling, just a little less manipulated. If you want true sport, unfortunately it doesn't really exist.
