And yeah I used the phrase in the past but I see now it's totally wrong.
If you don't "take it from the champ" it's already considered in the rules. If the fight goes to a draw, the champ remains the champ.
Fights are decided on round by round.
If a round is close will you score it for the champ because he's the champ? no...
So what more do you want? the champ already has the nod.

As a fighter, you'd want to make your mark by doing just that....taking the title, not being given it. Same difference yeah but that's what makes fighting for a title more significant than some rudimentary fight.
A fighter should have to try harder, do more if they want to dethrone the champ.
Yes, you're right. The criteria doesn't change for a championship bout. The guy who wins, should win.
This usually happens anyway.
Besides the Hagler SRL fight, most new champs did ''take'' the title.
SRL pitty patted the crown off of Hagler's head by the slimmest of margins.
