I hope GGG won't give him a third fight. I don't think he will necessarily be stopped, but he will be 37,5 in September and he was somewhat past his prime when he fought Canelo in the first fight. Canelo's tactic of waiting out GGG is effective, no argument there. Great for wikipedia resume, not so much for the opinions of true fans.

In boxing Prime vs Prime has always been a narrative. No version of Gennady stops Prime Canelo. Canelo now stops all of GGG’s former opponents.I hope GGG won't give him a third fight. I thought it was reported Martinez couldn't spar for the Cotto fight because of his knee? I know Freddy Roach was very vocal about the type of cast Martinez could wear to the ring.Comment

Well never know how good GGG was in his prime which would have been when he was about 30 or 31 so back in 2013. At that time he was tearing through c+ to B- level fighters which is what you'd expect an elite fighter to do.
So you are expecting Canelo to stop Jacobs? I'll be very impressed if he does without any mitigating circumstances ... such as a Jacobs injury or an early ref stoppage.Comment

He was 35 when he thought Canelo the first time. No athlete is in their prime at that age, not even Hopkins. Most mw boxers are in their prime somewhere from 27-32 depending on genetic makeup, how worn they are etc. I'd say GGG was in his prime until about 32 but absolute prime about 30.I hope GGG won't give him a third fight. Of course, how effective you are a s a boxer is not only about athleticism but also experience. So as the athleticism tails off the experience curve is still rising. But in GGG's case he had 400 amateur fights against all styles so he had learnt most of what he was ever going to learn by the time he was 32 for sure.
Canelo is probably at his absolute peak right about when he fought GGG2. He'll probably start tailing off in another 2-3 years.Last edited by SteveM; 03-02-2019, 11:17 AM.Comment

If GGG was this great in his late 20’s or early 30’s he would’ve fought at 168. Imagine Lomachenko just coasting at one division his whole life waiting for belts? These types of decisions are unheard of.Well never know how good GGG was in his prime which would have been when he was about 30 or 31 so back in 2013. Seems like you edited out your response about be BHop at 35. Surely you realized BHop beat Tarver at what age? BHop also beat the #1 LHW Kazakh named Shumenov. Hopkins came from 160. Either Hopkins is from a different cloth than GGG’s genetics could never imagine or you guys now realize that I’ve always been right that GGG performs better at 168+ now.He was 35 when he thought Canelo the first time. It's fashionable to jump weights but you can be great if you stay in one weight division all your career - Hagler? I think he genuinely wanted to be the best MW first and he was avoided. But I also think he didn't fancy a difficult Ward fight for peanuts when he could see a Canelo fight in the near future worth ten times as much.Comment

I didn't edit anything out, I edited in about Hopkins. Sure, Hopkins had great wins in his 40s but that doesn't mean he was in his prime. Hopkins was cut from a different genetic crop than 99.99% of all other boxers.Seems like you edited out your response about be BHop at 35. Surely you realized BHop beat Tarver at what age? I don't see GGG doing well at 168 now. It's too late to move up and make a title run - he has always made 160 comfortably.Comment

Those are copouts to begin with. Hagler and GGG’s accomplishments were different ages to begin with, and Hagler’s run was at an earlier age. And again, diehard GGG are so confused with timeline. Lol. GGG in 2012 didn’t even have Canelo as a narrative. Those years strategically avoided Ward all when industry wanted Ward vs GGG. Abel and Loeffler in 2015 decided the Canelo route and made such an insecurity that they created the Mexican style gimmick. GBP were happy to oblige since Canelo’s path was destined for GGG, not GGG who avoided Ward years earlier before. It's fashionable to jump weights but you can be great if you stay in one weight division all your career - Hagler?
