Does Mayweather deserve criticism for how relatively little he fought?

Floyd was a really good amateur, but I wouldn't say decorated like Rigo/Loma. Floyd had less than 100 amateur fights, compared to those two who had what around 400 amateur fights? Floyd also turned professional when he was 19 years old opposed to those two.

But what is wrong with having 50 fights? Not everyone needs to be Roberto Duran or even Manny Pacquiao. Canelo turned professional when he was 15 years old and was obviously super busy when he first started out. Canelo didn't have much amateur experience so those early fights were essentially his amateur fights.

SRL is a consensus top 10-12 fighter of all time and had 40 fights as mentioned in this thread.

The trend we will be seeing going forward is fighters with around 40-50 fights and less. Will be in rare cases you see fighters with 70+ fights with how little they fight now a days.

He's smart, but, yeah, deserves some criticism.
floyd didnt duck any prime fighter

3 of the 4 guys you accuse of him ducking in their prime were all top rank fighters in their prime and thats the same company floyd left and became a superstar after he left

arum actualy said floyd agreed to fight margarito

floyd agreed to fight margs if bob guaranteed a certain amount of money for future fights against cotto and hatton....but didnt think floyd was worth it and they squabbled over something like 6 million dollars.....and floyd decided to buy out

bob actually talked very nicely about floyd here...bob thought floyd would use TR to promote his fights the way he ended up using golden boy....once floyd started using golden boy bob flipped and starting bashing floyd at every chance......he also wouldnt let his guys near floyd for fear of them being beaten and ruined.....

anyone who thinks floyd ducked those guys or avoided them in their prime is missing the real picture....it was arums doing

Man, Floyd was ducking everybody even after leaving TR. I don't buy into any of that stuff. Arum is an enabler. Just like in Fury's case. If a fighter wants to fight, he'll fight. He even told Merchant to his face that he wasn't going to fight a prime Cotto because he wasn't going to "let boxing retire him". If that's not ducking, nothing is.

I don't doubt Mayweather's intelligence or his abilities as a boxer. He's fantastic. But he's also a coward. Nothing more to it.

He fought Cotto at 154 his preferred weight, unlike Manny
Mosley was #2 P4P at the time....... Pacs trainer has stated he wish manny would've taken those tests....so Pac declined the fight with money, because of HIS fear.....
Margs proved he was a cheater and was KNOCKEDOUT

154 was Cotto's past-prime weight, and he barely even fought there lol. Floyd waited until Mosley got super old before fighting him, too. Pacquiao is on steroids, but so is Mayweather and everybody else. Margarito definitely is a cheater, but Mayweather didn't knock him out; that was Mosley.

Mayweather exploited the business and became mega-rich, multiple times, off of it. That is something to be respected in a game that often leaves fighters broke poor. But we can't rewrite history. Mayweather ducked everybody.

I don't buy that. Like I said, Arum is an enabler. He was still trying to remain in Floyd's good graces for a bit before everything went sour.

Anyhow, again, that doesn't explain retiring to avoid fighting a prime Cotto for fear of being retired by him, or all the other ducking Mayweather continued to do, including Pacquiao and Mosley, afterwards.

Dude is one of the best fighters ever. But we gotta face facts. He is also a coward. He can't be TBE when he was hiding from Cotto, Pacquiao, Margarito, and Mosley, and everybody else.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree

I'll spar Leonard right now, and hope my youth gets me over on him.

Do I deserve credit for that? Is it the same as a prime Leonard? Dude's 62.
