Fighters are know for fighting through the pain. I doubt this is a fake claim as I'm sure Ward has the proper imaging to back his case.

But in trial it all won't come down to doctor versus doctor Ward's boxing performances after his claimed injury will come into evidence. His own words will come into play at trial. His athletic performances after injury will come into play at trial. Just like any insurance case if a claimant claims disability and a doctor backs it up (not hard to find a doctor to do so) yet there is video evidence that contradicts Wards and his doctor's claims it will be assessed by the judge or jury.

For example Ward's claim is his injury ended his career early costing him x amount of $. Ward and his dr's claim his injury prohibits him to pivot or move in certain ways causing pain, etc. Or further fighting would cause too much damage. Yet Lloyd's have a video of Ward playing basketball running up and down the court, shooting jump shots, and showing no signs of knee injury would you as a juror award him his insurance payout? Most jurors would not.

I am sure the insurance company especially Llyods since they have a history of getting screwed for example by wrestlers, have a policy on Ward that they believe he is not entitled to a payout.
They already denied his claim, that's why he is filing suit in court. The court will now decide if in accordance with the policy, Ward is due a payout. People sue insurance companies and win all the time. Depends on who has the more compelling case.

Ward sued his promoter Dan Goossen to try to get out of his contract and lost. That was after Goossen got him into the Super 6 tournament when nobody knew him and Ward was the only guy that didn’t have to travel overseas to fight. He lost that case and I won’t be surprised if he loses this insurance lawsuit. Ward always seems to try to get money from others without earning it in the ring. Roc Nation lost millions with those crazy guarantees that they paid him, when he didn’t sell tickets or PPVs. Funny that Ward tried to get some of that GGG money when he saw that GGG became much more popular in the US as a champion from Kazakhstan than he was than Ward ever was here. Ward did not have an exciting style and was not friendly to the media or fans, that’s why he never became a popular fighter in spite of his record. I thought he lost the first fight to Kovalev and never got warned for those low blows in the second fight, even though Kovo seemed to self destruct. Ward is a good commentator, just never an exciting boxer and now trying to get free money from the insurance company for a suspect injury. The timeline doesn’t match up for his injuries and the only ones willing to pay him $6M was Roc Nation, losing $3M in the process. No wonder they got out of boxing dealing with financial losing fights with Ward

Andre Ward toppled Kovalev twice, and was rightly on top of the world (with the death of HBO not that far after his fight, a return home to Showtime for a Stevenson-Ward fight would've made sense for SHOPPV or even CBS).

Ward wins that fight, he's the undisputed 175lb king, with eyes on other big fights (real life Creed story against Bellew at 200lbs, possible shot at the heavyweight championship, etc).

Ward's not crippled, but the injury he sustained has prevented him from taking advantage of the opportunities he could've had were he not to have gotten hurt.

If the loss of value policy doesn't pay out now, what good were the payments to begin with?

It's a different example, but not all different from the Top 10 junior QB who goes back to school for his senior year, takes out an insurance policy just in case, before blowing out a knee the second game of his senior season.
I get & agree with most of your response, but as to the bolded part HAS IT taken value from him?

I'm not 100% it has since he's talked about potentially fighting again. He's even said he wouldn't be opposed to move to HW to fight Joshua. To me it sounds like Ward could fight again, but he chooses not to. If he could fight but doesn't is that about his injury or a choice? Seems like a choice to me.

You obviously don't know anything about Andre Ward's past career.

You probably never even heard of him till he and Abel started talking smack to each other about Golovkin in the media 3 years ago.

I've heard Ward teasing the possibility of a comeback several times since he announced his retirement. Never once did I hear him say anything about having suffered a career ending knee injury.

I find it strange that guy as smart as him should be saying things in public that could prejudice his chances in a legal case. He's 0 - 3 in legal battles so far though ...

Knees injuries have always been a big problem for football (soccer) players, and with modern surgical techniques, they have to be very severe indeed to end a player's career.

Football players have been carried off the pitch on stretchers and straight to the hospital after injuring their knees, then been able to resume their careers after surgery and rehab. And football is a lot harder on the knees than boxing.

"Ward, 34, said he suffered what turned out to be a prohibitive knee injury while training in October 2016, the month before he edged Sergey Kovalev by unanimous decision in their first light heavyweight title fight,"

If he had a career ending injury in Oct 2016 how the hell did he have two successful fights after the injury against the top light heavyweight at the time? During those fights he did not even wear a knee brace or knee sleeve. And after those fights he openly talked about moving to heavyweight.
