the way he beat kovalev should trigger everyone because it shows how broken boxing is. it was a clear kovalev win but ward and roc nation picked and payed the officials and look what happened. this kind of control should not be given to a promoter or fighter. its the reason ward never traveled and refused to fight unless he was the a-side. he knew how powerful that control was. its the difference between winning and losing and what happens in the ring is a very distant second. you will pretend nothing is wrong though because you love ward or other a-side guys who profit off this broken system.Comment

That's exactly what it sounds like. It was no secret Ward was being overpaid, he really didn't even want to fight Kovalev the 2nd time unless he got 3 million or whatever it was and Roc Nation handed it over like the rookie promoters they were...Now they want to sue to recoup their losses. Shameful ...Comment

I can see why they are having trouble collecting.
Ward wins a fight after this career ending injury. He officially retires almost a year later after the injury. And there are rumors of him fighting again & even Ward himself hasn't ever 100% shut down that talk.
And honestly this is the first I'm hearing of a specific injury being the reason Ward retired. I've always recalled hearing about "lingering injuries" or injuries, plural, being at fault without anything specific being at fault like this lawsuit is claiming.
Andre Ward toppled Kovalev twice, and was rightly on top of the world (with the death of HBO not that far after his fight, a return home to Showtime for a Stevenson-Ward fight would've made sense for SHOPPV or even CBS).
Ward wins that fight, he's the undisputed 175lb king, with eyes on other big fights (real life Creed story against Bellew at 200lbs, possible shot at the heavyweight championship, etc).
Ward's not crippled, but the injury he sustained has prevented him from taking advantage of the opportunities he could've had were he not to have gotten hurt.
If the loss of value policy doesn't pay out now, what good were the payments to begin with?
It's a different example, but not all different from the Top 10 junior QB who goes back to school for his senior year, takes out an insurance policy just in case, before blowing out a knee the second game of his senior season.Comment

Yeah, they're probably going to have to articulate in some way that if Ward were to continue fighting on that leg that he'd risk serious damage and thus cannot continue to fight. The fact that he turned down what would have been a very lucrative Tony Bellew fight is a strong indication that the knee is not in good condition. If Lloyd's settles it would be considered a win for RNC and Ward.Last edited by kafkod; 02-13-2019, 06:43 PM.Comment

BoxingScene.com has learned through court documents it has obtained that Ward and former promoter Roc Nation Sports are plaintiffs in a lawsuit against Lloyds Of London. They seek $6.3 million because they allege the prominent insurance company has failed to honor the terms of his policy after he suffered a career-ending injury to his right knee.
They should have named it LORD'S OF LONDON
