Let me start by saying, you literally acknowledged part of what Ward said in your initial post. Ward said Kovalev would never be the same. Guess what! He wasn't. He relied solely on his boxing versus Alvarez. Isn't that different from what the Krusher does?
As usual, people try and oversimplify things to make it work for whatever narrative they want to push. Kovalev was not "Krusher" against Alvarez. He fought a totally different fight than he usually fights. Why? The guy who walks you down and KO's you is gone. It can be argued that maybe Kovalev himself killed that guy with drinking (mentioned earlier) or it could be argued that Ward killed that guy buy standing up to the bully and KO'ng the bully.
Whether or not this version of Kovalev is better than the first isn't the argument nor does it speak to what Ward said. He didn't say Kovalev wasn't good anymore. He said he'd never be the same. As a matter of fact, he said that this version of Kovalev beats most light heavies out there. He said, a part of him (the part that imposes his will on fighters) is gone. Now we get to watch the next few Kova fights on ESPN to see just how accurate of a statement that is.
