  • Comments Thread For: Lopez: Would've Been Stopped If I Were The One Hurt In 7th Round

NEW YORK As much as Josesito Lopez respects Keith Thurman, he couldn't help but feel that the defending champion was afforded more margin for recovery than he would've been allowed. Lopez claimed during their post-fight press conference late Saturday night that referee Steve Willis would've stopped their fight in the seventh round if he were hurt the way Thurman was damaged. A contemplative Willis took a close look at Thurman multiple times as Lopez pummeled him for much of the second half of that stunning seventh round at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It didnt get stopped and you lost. Only got yourself to blame for not finishing the job.

Had the ref stopped it, that would've been a shambles. Run Time was hurt but that was all, ffs. Not a guy you'd be comfortable betting on.

It wasn't stopped cause of how the dynamic of how the fight went. Thurman was pretty much winning every round up until that point. If Thurman had been losing every round, plus a knock down..and then the 7th happens, it would have gotten stopped.

He simply doesn`t have a power. Any top 147 -154 guy would finish Thurman in that position.

No way was Keith that hurt. True, Lopez was pouring it on him but not to the point that a stoppage would've been warranted.

Excuses. You had him dead to rights and didn't have the gas tank to finish the job.

He wasn't hurt enough for a stoppage. Unless I missed something.
