These young fighters are too scared to take fights they aren’t heavily favored to win.Canelo deserves respect for taking the risks.
Not many fighters would have fought Trout when he did. His chance at Mayweather was on the line. He said no to being on another Floyd undercard and set out to prove he was a draw on his own.
The Lara fight was a no win situation. The fight was going to be ugly so he won but many people questioned it.
And then everyone said he would avoid BBB side at all costs. Fought him twice with the second being his best win.
He could win it this decade and challenge for it next decade as well.

He probably should get it if he beats Jacobs...but Mayweather beat Canelo this decade so I wouldn't be surprised if he still gets it.

can someone give me a straight answer, how can you be fighter of the decade when youve never been considered p4p number 1, so the best fighter in the sport, at any given time????

Mayweather retired in 2015. It's a joke to give to him.

If pacquiao wins it again he'll be the only fighter to have been FOTD twice since the GOAT himself SRR.

just another guy with a bunch of great on paper accolades, but is far from convincing as a top p4p type fighter.

That is a legitimate question. He's also never been fighter of the year. He's also failed PED tests and his best wins are debatable decisions the majority thinks he lost like GGG x2 and Lara. I don't think he'll be in the running because of these reasons and the voting will reflect this IMO.

I think Mayweather or Lomachenko would be more likely. Lomachenko maybe with an edge since Mayweather retired in 2015 and has only fought, I believe 8 fights. I think Pacquaio or Ward would be more strongly considered also. Perhaps Crawford too as he's been higher regarded p4p since 2014 and won FOTY and has been far more dominant, cleaning out more divisions.

It's been the weakest boxing decade probably in the entire gloved era and certainly in the TV era. That's not a doubt but the voters won't consider a convicted cheat who's gotten so may debatable decisions that are heavily disputed, not to mention a shut out in his biggest fight vs. an opponent also in the running for the award.
