Both dudes are to blame for the fight not happening, Gary Russell and Leo, lets just be real....
Ask yourself this how often does Gary even fight? AND whats with this cherry picking by Leo?

Leo knows he can’t beat Gary Russell Jr. That’s a no brainer. Neither Abner or Leo could beat him.

Mares wanted to fight Donaire when Mares was still with Golden Boy and Donaire with Top Rank. Mares demanded the fight and he had Richard Shaeffer reach out to Top Rank to try and negotiate the fight.
Richard even sent Top Rank a $3 million dollar contract to be split between Donaire and Top Rank so that Top Rank would allow Donaire to fight Mares on a Golden Boy card but Top Rank refused and said it was low money. So Richard told Top Rank to make an offer so that they can stage the fight and Top Rank ignored Richard.
So learn the facts before you say ****** stuff on here!
Taking that waaaay too personal for it to be healthy.
Donaire was number #3 p4p at a time and was being pushed heavy since they had heavy filipino backing thanks to Manny and only an idiot would lease their top fighter off to a different company to promote their fight.
Think Golden boy and company would let someone else take Canelo to make a big fight for themselves? Be a little smarter. Think about more than just the obvious.
Donaire was the bigger and better fighter with much more prestige about him.
“Can we use your a-side to fight Mares on our card and promotion? Here’s a few mil for a guy that’s already making over a mil.” Lmao okay.
Read between the lines and learn to think for yourself on the potential consequences of such a ****** deal.

And at the end of the day what really became of Donaire???
You gonna tell me his career went alot better than Mares's career??
At the time Mares was undefeated, a two division champion, and a top 10 P4P fighter. Plus he's Mexican and popular among Latino fans.
That's a great name to have under your belt if any fighter could beat him... Why didn't Donaire take a chance??
Why didn't he ask Bob Arum to offer more money to have Mares fight on a Top Rank card like Golden Boy promotions was willing to do if the money was right???
Why didn't they counter offer the 3 million dollars Golden Boy promotions offered??
Think about it before you write back with some nonsense!
Mares was willing and ready to test himself against Donaire.
Obviously Donaire wasn't so who ducked who???
