how come dominicans suck at boxing?? (great question)

I mean you got legends from PR and Cuba.. wtf happened to dominicans? i know they dominate baseball but i dont get how every dominican boxer sucks ass. i mean i cant think of one. MAYBE joan guzman but he failed to reach his potential being undisciplined.

Lets look carefully at this understanding. First off, what if Puerto Rico and Cuba did not exist? So...now we have a big cookie island half Haiti half the Dominican Republic. Then we have Mexico... and lets throw China and India into the mix...

Lets look at how many fighters make it to the professional level in all countries...

The Dominican Republic is typical, not below average. They may look atypical because: Puerto Rico and Cuba have very strong boxing programs. But compared by relative population, They are an average boxing talent. They look great compared to India!

Cuba and Puerto Rico have a long history and love of boxing so boxing is in their blood and they have good trainers. Young men there often want to become boxers. Dominicans have no such love or history of boxing. There is no reason every island around there should be great at boxing and it's not a great question.

Latin American boxing in a nutshell...

Mexico- World flagship boxing country along with the U.S. and Japan.

Puerto Rico- Great Latin providence that spits out great fighters once every 5 to 10 years

Cuba- Their pros suck, but they have a great amateur program.

Argentina- Spit out a great fighter once every 5 to 10 years, about equal to PR these days.

Nicaragua and Panama once in a generation spit out a great fighter

Dominican Republic does not exist in the boxing world. They like Baseball...and that's it, period.
