Jermall is one funny dude. His mediocre performance against Korobov just made the majority less interested in him fighting Canelo, 3G or Jacobs. Andrade or Saunders beats him by UD. I'd like to see how he fairs against Derevyanchenko or Lemieux.

Of course, Lee hits hard and is Southpaw. Quillin couldn’t even stop Lee. Seeing all of Lee’s fights if GGG were caught with a right hook I could see GGG changing his aggression the whole bout

Charlo is a better fighter than he looked that night, an immediate rematch would be interesting and could prove it was just an off night, like when Benavidez rematched Gavril and won almost every round. I think he'd always lose rounds to Korobov even in clear victory but I don't blame him wanting bigger fish next time out.

The way boxing is with the best fights not always happening it's pointless to speculate too much who he should/could fight, especially without knowing what Canelo does next. My choice for May: Canelo-DJ, GGG-Charlo but if we get Canelo-Golovkin III or Canelo-Lem instead then Charlo should focus on one of the other belt holders because I see Canelo prioritising unification over a mandatory defense for September.

There's no reason to think Golovkin would have been any more worried about fighting Lee than he was about Macklin or Murray, both of whom I'm sure he had a healthy respect for. Lee would rightly be considered more dangerous with that fierce hook and the straight left, but was also widely considered less durable - certainly than Macklin or Murray.

Golovkin would have been a wide - almost prohibitive betting favourite against Lee and with good reason. Korobov was outboxing Lee comfortably until he got caught, and Golovkin gives nothing away to Matvey in terms of skill, applies way more pressure and is far, far more durable.

I agree with pretty much this. I doubt GGG lacked confidence in his chances against Lee, as he previously beat him in the amateurs and was scheduled to face him before personal tragedy. I was a big Lee fan and respected him for taking that fight but didn't expect him to win or even make the final bell.

As for why Americans rate him higher than guys like Barker, Macklin and Geale...I think you pretty much covered it (exposure, Kronk, etc.) but I'd also include his power as a reason. Lee's power separates him from those other 3.

As for his fight with Korobov, Matvey was outboxing him but there were a few times where you saw Andy visibly hurt him. When a guy can crack and hurt people with one shot, people tend to rate them high.

For the record, I think Lee was also better than Barker, Geale and Macklin; I think he probably stops Geale and Barker. Sure he wasn't terribly durable but he had decent boxing skills and boy could he crack...anyway, good post!

Bro i loved Andy Lee but i disagree i respect your opinion though and glad you were a fan i was so happy when Lee won that belt he had dynamite in his left. Quillin got lucky to get away with that draw.

His last fight certainly didn't wet the appetite for a Canelo/GGG fight. I think he would benefit from a few more fights against good fighters a level down from those 2.
