He'd be in the mix for sure. He'd win some and lose some just like in his day. I doubt he'd be rockin such a sweet mullet though.
Would prime Tommy Morrison be undisputed HW champion against the current crop?

Morrison got HIV in 1989. For him to achieve what he did while having that is amazing.
This era is ****. Morrison and Joshua would be the two top HW's.Last edited by Robbie Barrett; 01-03-2019, 01:53 AM.Comment

Indeed. I also think Tommy's footwork wasn't up to much... funny thing is I'm watching those highlights wondering how Sasha could lose, but I know there'll be other folk watching the same footage thinking the exact opposite.*shrugs*Comment

Grew up pretty much without TV and and with a lot of books, man. Didn't formally study anything, though my old man used to make me read political philosphy in my early teens - tested me on that ish too. Ran away from home when I was like 17 and never got back into education - just dribs and drabs here and there, some night classes and stuff, but I never stopped reading and never lost my curiosity.Thats a great analogy
Did you study philosophy? medieval philosophy?
Morrison is one of those guys who was brought along right, and developed good skills by being fed the right competition at the right time. He beat some slicksters, Tillis and Thomas, also some good hitters, Foreman and Rudock among them... If we catch prime Morrison which would have to be an amalgamation of one sort or another...perhaps just after Thomas and before he screwed up against Mercer the merk man... It would be interesting.
IMO he beats the secondary guys is a fair assumption. he never had the style to touch Fury, time will show us how good Fury is, I believe. Against Joshua I think its a toss up. Joshua is coming into his best and when he gets there he will probably be a better fighter than Morrison, but at this stage? Either one could get tagged hard and be susceptable to big punches. As a matter of fact Razor Rudock could be a precident as a big hitter who faced Morrison...Razor had one good hand, but knew how to use it well. I would put him roughly at the level of Joshua now all things considered.
Wilder... hard to say. To date we don't really know his chin, I can see a fight similar to the Ortiz affair because of late rounds stamina issues from Tommy... Again a toss up, just like ortiz almost beat Wilder and could have won that battle (toss up). Morrison beat a lot of good fighters and lost to two guys who are hardly slouches (Mercer and Lewis) and there were a few screw ups there as well... But he did have skills and could put together punches very well. To understand this one has to watch Tommy coming up, how he progressed, not necessarily how he looked when he fought at the highest level...he was already having problems then.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 01-03-2019, 04:35 AM.Comment

You guys are really romanticizing the 90's HW scene. Wasn't nearly as good as you guys seem to think. Remember that immediately after Mercer ruined Morrison's life, he got ass ****d in a 12 round UD to a 44 year old Larry Holmes on his third stint out of retirement.
Sure you had the top 3 of Lewis, Holyfield and Bowe (While Tyson was in prison, and Lewis, Holyfield and Tyson when he was out) but after those 3-4 names....well, you had a 45 year old George Foreman, Guys that would be considered undersized today (Michael Moorer) and a who's who of names that the top 3 beat up (Michael Bentt, Oliver McCall, Phil Jackson, Tommy Morrison, Mike Hunter, Alex Garcia, Tony Tucker, Herbie Hyde, Lionel Butler, Jorge Gonzalez) In 1997 Tim Witherspoon (40 years old) was the #5 ranked HW in the world. He hadn't been a ranked fighter for 5 years before that.
And even if Tommy had a chin, he would still suck because his boxing skills were garbage. He had no chin, and he never thought to protect his chin.Comment

Good power, decent speed for a heavyweight, however not durable when it comes to chin or stamina, one handed fighter that was kinda like a 1 trick pony. Tyson Fury outboxes him with ease and Wilder and Joshua would probably KO him early.Comment

I don't think so. very good power, very good boxing / style but chin was weak and stamina not so good.
Lower level tier of today's fighters yes, like Chisora & Whyte, but IMO he won't win against Fury, Wilder, Joshua. Although you never know because he won against Foreman, who possessed a very very good punch and an iron chin.Comment
