I think we will. If a prime Tyson was well under 6 feet and I think he would beat any heavyweight fighting today. A 6 ft. 4 inch 240 pound heavyweight would not be considered a small heavyweight today, Certainly not if he was 240 lean hard pounds. Nobody is calling Whyte or Ortiz a small heavyweight and they are 6 ft. 4 inches and 240 very fat pounds. AJ has been a lean 240 in some fights and nobody calls him small. Some of today's heavyweight weigh so much because they are very fat. Fury had rolls of fat on him for the Wilder fight. Anyway I think a heavyweight slightly under 6 feet tall will come along some day with the skills to be heavyweight champion. After all there are usually from two to four world heavyweight titles to be had.
Will we ever see a heavyweight champion under 6ft again?

In what Universe would this guy be considered a small heavyweight? Was thinking about this while watching Creed 2. Adonis is 5'10 210lbs, and a big deal is made about how much smaller he is than Drago who is 6'4 240lb, but in real life Drago would be considered a small heavyweight. Will we ever see a real heavyweight champion (major belt / lineal) who is under 6ft again?

Deontay Wilder's lanky 209 lbs ass should be considered a small anomaly in HWComment

well Creed was a lightheavy moving up so its fine, and Drago or whatever is about right though obviously way too muscular to be effective in a cardio sport like boxing.
Smaller HWs will come and go too, just not as often as dominant large ones - and we've not seen a dominant large one since Lennox in 2003.Last edited by DreamFighter; 12-27-2018, 05:38 AM.Comment

I'm not sure. I think boxing trainers will also be on the lookout for guys like Fury. Huge guys that can actually move, not just some big stuff lummox .
Kinda like how sprinting coaches are now looking for taller sprinters but with the leg turnover speed of a smaller guy, like they got with Bolt.
Plus, with weigh's in the day before, smaller fighters can boil down to even smaller weights than they probably should.Comment

Definitely not small. Fairly average by today's standards i think, but he's definitely a bit smaller than the current top fighters in the division though.Comment

A smaller heavyweight, sure.
Under 6ft I am less sure about, the main thing is that even light heavyweights moving up are usually over 6 ft, especially the ones with the frame to support heavyweight.
Look at the light heavys and cruiserweights who moved up, or who may move up, who would then be "small" heavyweights:
Tarver
Haye
ugsyk
holyfield
-all over 6ft
Most light heavies - dawson, stevenson, kovalev, hopkins, are over 6ft.
Toney beat Ruiz but tested positive, Roy got his win with the same ruiz. That was more an anomly of a chit fighter having an abc belt that could be easily beaten by middleweights.
Will we ever have a dominant lineal / undisputed champ like Tyson again? Its possible but its hard to be a well conditioned boxer who is over 200lbs and under 6ft. If you are a short fat ass, unless youre james toney, probably wont be competitive at heavy. Prime tyson was build like a brick house, you dont see that often.Last edited by elfag; 12-27-2018, 08:38 AM.Comment
