Don't get it twisted. Mike Tyson isn't ******. I don't doubt that he made an offer to the zookeeper to let him punch the gorilla, but I also don't doubt that he would say, "I'm just kidding" if the zookeeper agreed. I think it's pretty clear that this wasn't to be taken seriously. The man admits that he was afraid of every single opponent he faced. He admit that physically he doesn't stand a chance with the baby tiger in that film. He's not so dumb to try to punch a gorilla....unless he was coked up when he said it.
Tyson was an entertainer and he knew his aura was centered around the bully, tough guy act, which is how he defeated a lot of fighters before throwing a punch.

Yeah but your forgetting that back then that Tyson was the baddest man on the planet . Everyone feared him including the gorilla . When Tyson would be stalking the gorilla bobbing and weaving behind his jab. The gorilla would be terrified of Tyson . and when Tyson would hit him he would of never felt anything like his power. One of Tyson's right hands to the gorillas temple and the gorilla would be out cold. He wouldn't be able to get up for a week.

At one time there used to be bars around the country where you could wrestle a bear or gorilla. There would be a dude standing by with a rifle in the event the animal lost control. I recall an instance where some drunk wanted to impress his buddies and slugged a gorilla sending it to the floor hurt. The owner of the establishment was livid. He pulled the guy aside and explained to him that he just ruined the gorilla and cost the guy a lot of money, because the gorilla will no longer trust humans and likely kill one next time. He then offers the guy a choice to either take his beating from the owner or get back in the cage with the gorilla.
Tyson could likely hurt the gorilla. But once that silverback regains his senses Tyson would have been torn limb from limb. Gorillas have freakish strength.

. Yeah but Tyson would have the gorilla out cold with one punch. And even if the gorilla was still conscious he would be on the ground quivering in fear of Tyson's power.

So you think Tyson would KO a 450 lb silverback that can lift itself up a tree with one arm?

Even he didn't ko the gorilla with his first punch . The gorilla has no boxing training so he would have no accuracy with his punches. So the gorilla would be at a huge disadvantage and Tyson would capitalise with his advantage in speed and power.
If he hits the gorilla first, as a living creature it would have felt pain but nothing like a man would feel, no KO or weakness. Painful enough to anger the gorilla fully and off goes Tyson's head while his lifeless body is trashed around the cage.
Can Tyson uproot a tree from it's root? A Gorilla can easily do that, the same we we pluck berries.
A silver back gorilla is as strong as 15 men. When you add the wild instinct of survival and fighting to it, you can easily count 30+ men cuz it will fight like hell. A suitable comparison will be fighting a man whose brain is completely fried on drugs, a man capable of cutting his wrist off and using only what's left of the limbs to throw a vicious punch - and that man is super powerful.
Add fangs, low center of gravity, weight, a thick muscled skeleton, body and head. It's a fight lost within seconds.
Even with all that, a gorilla can run as fast as Usain Bolt and probably 10x the distance so it has the stamina to fight for as long as it takes with insane speed and agility. No amount of movement from Tyson or any quick feet boxer will work in evading it.
Tyson would have died a horrific quick death even if he threw the first 10 punches flush on the gorilla's jaw.
