Nobody in the US thinks we single handily won the war. BUT, we were a part of making it winnable when we didn't even have to get involved in the first place. The biggest single US ontribution to the outcome of hostilities in the European theatre was the destruction of German manufacturing capacity by the US Air force and the provision of strategic materials and military hardware to the Soviets and British which began years before Normandy.
