Comments Thread For: Lineage Matters Most at Heavyweight

By Cliff Rold - Anthony Joshua is the biggest draw in the heavyweight division and the man with the most belts. He might be the best fighter in the heavyweight division. He's not the man who beat the man. Not yet. For many of the purists, this weekend is for all the marbles. Tyson Fury (27-0, 19 KO) doesn't have a major sanctioning body title. For them, he doesn't need one. He's the man who beat the man...

I'd take the lineal title over any of the sanctioning bodies but..Joshua is the heavyweight champ

Except that he's not. He doesn't hold the lineal title and he doesn't hold the most respected official title.

He has the belts stripped from Fury. But Fury has the lineage and Wilder is the longest reigning champion.

Fury lost that lineage when he said he was retired, didn't fight for 2 and half year and got banned for PED use.

Joshua is recognised as the #1 HW and will continue to be so after Saturday too.

Being viewed as the #1 matters more than any title.

Joshua is hiding under his bed. #1 would make his claim instead of extrapolating an excuse out of a money advantage.

Everyone aside from the WBC ranks Joshua as number one.

As for Fury's "lineage" why was Fury not "stripped" of that for failing a drugs test? Oh right because it's a made up title that doesn't actually exist.

the casuals may wet themselves over titles, and over lineage..... but REAL fans know whats up

whoever wins this weekend, must face Joshua

nothing else matters..... not titles, not lineage, nothing

                  questions > titles/lineage

there are questions over who is the best heavyweight..... regardless as to the belts/lineage..... and those questions need to be answered

one of those questions will be answered this weekend

and until the other question is answered, titles/lineage are just casual-fan wankery..... because being the lineal champ will not guarantee that Fury beats Wilder..... being the WBC champ will not guarantee that Wilder beats Fury..... and holding the other belts, will not guarantee that Joshua can beat the winner

those two questions need to be answered, and until they are answered, the casuals can circle-jerk over who they think is the best, based on whatever title/lineal/fanboy rubbish they decide is more important to them

whoever wins this weekend, must face Joshua

                  nothing else matters

He said he was joking about being retired, plenty of lineal champions went longer than 2 years without fighting, and the PED test was for a fight before he became champion, and therefore, completely irrelevant.

Even Ring Magazine, which stripped Fury of their title, continues to refer to him as lineal champion. All of the media is still referring to him as lineal champion. The world has spoken. He is still lineal champion whether you like it or not. You're a punk kid crying on the internet. You have no say in anything.
