on evidence of his last fight he would of taken them all, rjj, hopkins or any other kind you got. sit down and watch the calzaghe-lacy fight very carefully bozo, then come back and say that he couldn't challenge rjj or hops or anybody for that matter.
So watching a fight of his from this year proves that he should have been respected and feared 5-8 years ago does it?
well, he looked pretty damn good in the brewer fight too. and there is no doubt that brewer was a beast with skills, he wasn't quite the same after the joe c fight but 97/98-02 brewer was for real.

Brewer was not an opponent that would sky rocket someone into the spotlight. Contraversy aside he was coming off a stoppage loss to Echols and had dropped two decisions (on paper) to Ottke, who at the time was just as protected and unproven as Calzaghe.
That was not a win that did or should have had the boxing world taking notice of him.
i thought it was a great fight, i dont know what you thought of it at the time but i really enjoyed it. joe c showed good heart, always willing to trade with brewer which should of been suicidal, but we didn't know just how quick calzaghe's hands were, he stood with brewer and simply got his shots off quicker, and who would of thought that anyone out there could stand with brewer and have much joy? i know rjj and hops would of just ran for 12 rounds and bored us to death, but calzaghe went to war with him. i dont know what happened to joe c after that, he dissappeared off the scene. should of come over here after the brewer fight and campaigned at lightheavy.

What is you point here?
That you were entertained by the fight and that somehow made it more significant in retrospect?
Beating Brewer at that time was not epecially significant. It was not something that stood out, or proved anything about Joe at the time.
And suggesting beating Brewer means he could have stood in with Roy or Bernard at that time is a laughable leap.
I'm not saying he wasn't a good fighter, just that he wasn't accliamed or respected at the time at the top level, and that was a direct result of fighting meidocre fighters in his own backyard.
He is getting the respect now days for a great win earlier this year.
That doesn't write off the sub par career he's had up to this point.
i dont know where your coming from. so your trying to say that joe c wouldn't of lived with rjj and hops and that made it okay for them to avoid him and fight clinton woods and howard eastman instead? on evidence of the two fights ive seen of joe c, he wouldn't of just lived with rjj and hops but would of been too busy for them both.

You don't even know what you're trying to talk about now.
Years back, Calzaghe was not in a position to be demanding high profile fights on his own terms. He was no more highly regarded than Ottke at the time.
You seem to be suggesting based on the fact you think he could have hung with them at the time, that means they should have sought to fought him, when in Roy's case he moved up to Light Heavyweight, and in Hopkins case, he was setting a record at Middleweight.
You're jumping all over the place in mentioning different fights. Eastman? Hopkins fought Eastman in 2004 at Middleweight to break the all time record for all time Middleweight defenses. Why on earth would he move up to 168 to fight for the WBO title agaisnt a guy who hadn't beat a prime Marquee fighter or been in the ring with a live body in years?
And why would Jones when he fought Clinton woods, be worrying about a WBO title holder at 168 when he'd been a light heavyweight for YEARS and was eyeying a trip up to Heavyweight?
You're not making any sense and you're jumping out of the scope of the discussion.
Calzaghe is getting pound for pound recognition now, and that deserved. Before the Lacy fight, it was not. He was no more proven or marquee as a fighter than Sven Ottke. He was a sheltered fighter who sat in his own back yard.
this is a fast-handed big guy with a feel for the game like no other, but also power, heart, chin, everything. and your saying he wasn't fit enough to share a ring with rjj or hops? i say look again.
