If Mikey wins this fight he becomes an instant superstar and P4P #1 for me. It would make him the face of this new gen. 40-0, 5 division champ, that would be impressive af

I like Spence but I don't see how he isn't getting more crap for this fight. Not from but from those who have bombed on other fighters for far less disparities in size than this. Maybe because he hasn't fought much and any half way decent fight is to be applauded but the optics of this don't look great for him. He looks like a monster next to Garcia. I can't ever recall a recent fight with such a discrepancy at the smaller weights for a supposedly big fight (Hearns vs. Duran).
I think it is shame, Garcia should be fighting Loma and Spence should be fighting Crawford. But this is boxing.
As for a PPV, I think this will be a BOMB and not in a good way.Comment

The problem is that he is good enough, to stay in the fight, but he is going to take punches, and they are going to be hard punches. Fighters usually dont get injured in quick knockouts or short fights, its usually the long fights where they are too game for their own good, and there is never a point where you can really say, okay it should be stopped now.Yes he did. But Kell was still game to fight until that last round. It wasn't as if Spence blew him out of the entire fight. Mikey won't get hit in the same fashion. He knows better than to stand and trade. And let me make myself clear, Mikey will most likely lose. I'm not saying he'll win. But he's not going to die. And it's not this terrible mismatch that people are claiming.
Like Meldrick Taylor vs Chavez.
Those kinds of fights can ruin careers, and lives after boxing.
There is zero reason to take that kind of risk, when your style doesn't revolve around pure boxing, and being incredibly slick.
Mikey style involves using his jab to setup power shots that will get a guys respect, and using his incredible timing.
As great a puncher as he is, I believe he can unload the kitchen sink on Spence, and not really bother him. Mikey just isn't big enough to carry his power up that far against such a big welterweight.
So why make the fight? There basically 3 likely outcomes. Mikey gets pulled out early once they realize it a hopeless situation before he takes damage, he gets sparked out early, and doesnt take much damage, or he is competitive enough to absorb more punishment than he should ever have had too from a guy the size of spence.
The outside possibility of him winning is small enough that its not worth the risk to his health.
Its a fight nobody was asking for, so why do it?
Id even go so far as to say its a fight most people don't want to see. Everyone I have talked about the fight with in person have said the same thing.
"What is mikey thinking? He is going to get slaughtered."
People don't really like watching what they think of as a foregone conclusion.Comment

I think this is just another publicity stunt Mikey is pulling. I bet hes going to pull out with an injury and fight some other shlep. I could be wrong but history has shown Mikey doesnt want any smoke with anyone who has any chance whatsoever of being competitive with himComment

Exactly. When he loses he can just say the took a big challenge and fell short. No one is gonna dock him especially if he survives 12 rounds. The problem is that he is good enough, to stay in the fight, but he is going to take punches, and they are going to be hard punches. That's a far easier way to justify an L than being dominated by a smaller man at your own natural weightComment

It is definitely a win/win situation for Mikey, and No win situation for Spence. The pressure is actually on Spence to do what most expect. I give Mikey the edge in most categories except body punching, size, and strength.
I think both have under-rated skills too, but Spence is relentless in his attack. L. Peterson said he was by far the best he has ever fought, and he fought basically even with Danny Garcia.Comment
