  • Comments Thread For: The Growing Number of 'Champions' is Maddening

The out-of-control proliferation of "champions" continues unabated. Promoters, writers and other boxing people recognize to various degrees the champions of five "major" sanctioning bodies the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO as legitimate world titleholders, which is ridiculous if you look at the numbers.

It's a good article. The only point I'd disagree with is that Michael Rosenthal doesn't name the sanctioning bodies for what they are. Understandably so, no doubt he has friends amongst them.

The sanctioning bodies are essentially parasitic, drawing sanctioning fees from fighters and serving the interests of various promoters. They're complicit in the devaluation of the title of champion until its become virtually meaningless.

The point of the article went completely over your head it seems & at least the ibo doesn't give out interim & regular titles like the others do. They are arguably the most legitimate despite not having the best champions.

          This.

Also welcome to 35+ years ago guy who wrote that article. It wasn't good at 2 belts, but when the IBF came on the scene in 83 it f#cked sh^t up. And when the WBO became a legit title, like some mfers are trying to do with the IBO title now by even mentioning it with these other belts like this writer is doing, it became a complete sh^t show.

This is one of the problems with the weak boxing media just happy to be paid in tickets to boxing events. Part of the job of media is to expose f#cked up sh^t. Or there is an element in anything covered that focuses on that generally. No one in boxing has the balls or maybe ability to deep dive into these ABC Groups & show the corruption, or at best only incompetence, we all know is going on.

Someone in boxing media needs to man up & do some investigative journalism & expose & perhaps by doing so bring one or more of these groups to an end.

No.. this site gets heavily supported financially by the IBO and it's contributing journalists and writers are leaned on to recognise the IBO or portray them as a legitimate ABC org alongside the 4 recognized world bodies.

The line of 5 major sanctioning bodies is wholly untrue and contributors to this site should rightly be called out on it regardless of how much the IBO pay this site to state otherwise.

The worst I think is not about belts but when writers wont call BS on lying promotors. Dan rafeal will NEVER call out Bob Arum no matter how many times he **** slaps him.

                  Hell NO! Your fkn insane!

The IBF is the best currently. And their champions are all pretty good.

It's been decades now. The proliferation of titles is a cancer that will never be removed.

Let's just ignore the alphabet trinkets; the real boxing experts know who is a champion and who is not.
