  • Do we call this a duck now? I remember those GGG fanatics were quick to call “Duck” when Sergio Martinez and anyone who might have a different path or option back in 2012/2014 didn’t just fight GGG right away.

Golovkin IS after the money. But try to, just for a moment, imagine what he is thinking. He's thinking in his own mind he is still the best MW out there because he considers he won both Canelo fights. This isn't about me saying what I think. It's me saying what Golovkin thinks.

So that being the case, Golovkin just has a simple pro-boxer-in-twilight-years decision to make - what fight brings most money for least risk?

Jacobs just had some stuffing knocked out of him last night. So did GGG in the 2nd Canelo fight. Charlo hasn't had any hard fights. A smart boxer will wait and see what Charlo is made of when matched tough before fighting him - same as ALL middleweights (including Canelo and Jacobs) waited for Brook to 'expose' Golovkin before stepping up to the plate. Before that, BJS' candidly opined view (when speaking with Eubank) was the consensus non-spoken thought of most MWs... "Golovkin? He'd beat you and me up on the same night" or Froch... "Golovkin? Swerve him like the plague". Only Ward was up for the task until plucky Brook came along.

Something similar is happening with Charlo now. Although in his case it's worse as he doesn't even have the belts that Golovkin held.
      Well said; Good post!

However, all I am saying is one would have to put themselves in Team Golovkin shoes. Gennady turns 37 next April. Nobody knows how many good fights he has left.

So what's in it for him? There is no money in a Jermall Charlo fight as compared to fighting a Saul Canelo Alvarez. Therefore, Charlo has nothing he wants. He has no belts, fanbase or following.

In addition, Gennady would lose a lot of money fighting Jermall Charlo because he doesn't bring any new fans or meat to the seats. Moreover, lastly he isn't a box office or a Pay Per View draw.

Jermall Charlo as much as I like him is simply an unknown among casual fans. Therefore, if that fight is ever made it won't sale.

I am speaking solely from his management standpoint and not a fan. As a fan it's a great fight which I would love to see happen. However if you are Tom Loeffler; He is looking at the big picture.
We shouldn’t look at the bigger picture when it comes to GGG. They tried to destroy Martinez name when he was in GGG shoes back a few years ago. Now GGG is in the exact same scenario and they are doing the exact same thing that Dibella did for Martinez.

So we all should criticise and destroy GGG name. Because they are the true meaning of hypocrites.

For Gennady Golovkin's sake; I hope that his promoter Tom Loeffler is listening. It's because us boxing fans want to see that fight; With myself included

Well he certainly has a lot of options available to him at this time. However, it's entirely up to him to capitalize on them. My biggest wish is that he signs with DAZN and not ESPN+ because there are very limited opportunities there since Ryōta Murata lost. On the other hand, the Middleweight division is stacked and loaded with talent at DAZN.

            • I imagine the experiences GGG and his team recently had with Canelo and GBP would have gone a long way to promoting a fair bit of cynicism, mistrust, anger, defensiveness and all the rest.

While that is understandable, GGG has almost little to no time to be negotiating a long time for another fight, and I don't think taking an 'easy' fight would be well received by fans.

Rejecting Charlo out of hand is a bit odd- but GGG could easily fade from fans memories as they do in this sport unless you stay busy and relevant - that means taking meaningful fights.

If I were GGG, I'd forget Canelo, target Andrade, Brant, even Derevyanchenko would be a good fight for early next year.

              • They didn't want Charlo, they didn't want Derevyanchenko, and they didn't want Jacobs.

They only care about that huge payday with Canelo.

                Not a peoples champ imo.

                • Good. Next time, Al Haymon boxers should not hide out at least 2 weight classes below their natural weight until the best fighter their size (smaller, actually) who fights a division above gets old. This should be a lesson to all the Haymon boxers following the Floyd ducking blueprint that waiting until your toughest rivals get old before fighting them does not always pay off, because many of those guys are smartening up and realizing that it only goes against their interests, and it sets an awful precedent, to reward the boxers who ducked you in your prime with an opportunity to gain big money and status against you once you're old and a much easier matchup.

GGG should tell ALL the guys who ducked him in his prime to kick rocks. Charlos, Andrade, Jacobs, all those guys. The only ducker GGG should fight is Canelo just to give it one more go to reverse the corrupt decisions, maybe go to the body THIS time (hah yeah right, but still). That's it. GGG should try to fight Canelo, otherwise, move up to 168 and reward guys who didn't duck you in your prime. Callum Smith vs GGG is the logical fight to make next. GGG could make 10 mil for that in the UK I bet. Then Canelo trilogy after, also at 168, so that fans get a new twist on the matchup, makes it less stale.

GGG should fight at 168 from now on. We might see a better GGG AND Canelo at 168. The less weight fighters have to take off, the better they look, generally, unless they're fighting someone too big for them. Canelo is bigger than GGG now though so that's not an issue.

                  • GGG is a network free agent. He can actually fight anyone he wants and make a one fight deal with them.

GGG's promoter says they wont make a one fight deal for Charlo... gives no valid reason.

Claims Canelo wont fight Jacobs... gives no valid reason.

GGG is going to fight some random cab driver next.
