That's 1 mil at $10 instead of 1 mil at $70 that they just did. I just don't see how they can make up that big of a difference
Its on multiple platforms first off.
The on-demand sports platform launched in the United States in September, but is already in service in Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan. This DAZN agreement means those countries will also get Canelo fights as part of their subscription.
So Canelo is ultimately generating income for Dazn in 7 countries.

Plus Canelo is gonna have cats who just pay $10 in May & September to watch Canelo while many other people are paying all year long for years to come.

But basically if DAZN gets 36.3M total (or 3.3M per fight) viewing his 11 fights across all platforms its break even. And thats assuming everyone is canceling right after which isn't gonna happen 100% of the time.

If 1M people are paying $80 to watch him fights this year how many people will be watching him fight when the price is 1/8th of what they were paying? Idk, but I'm super curious.

And if we figure Canelo fights twice a year & is making $66.3M for those fights they just need Canelo to bring in 552k fans to DAZN who keep the service for a full year to break even. Everything else is profit for DAZN.

And I'm sure the bonus upside numbers they brought up in the details of this deal is where Canelo's upside is coming in at. If 1M people get DAZN to watch Canelo fights thats $53.7M profit that I'm sure Dazn will happily give Canelo a piece of.

The numbers aren't THAT crazy. And again this is across all platforms & assuming its $10/mo which I don't think is the case in all countries. I think I've heard some people say its $20 in other countries.

And if I'm not mistaken his fights in Canada were PPV also. I'm not sure about the other countries where his fights come on at 5am. How did they previously get the fights? Free TV or PPV? What were the sales\ratings. And we gotta remember, Canelo needs a good B side to hit a mil. Sans Floyd he's only hit it with 2 fighters. Chavez Jr (Mexican) GGG (Mexican Style).

Yea idk all those details, but I know a lot of those details are the same unless, like Canada, DAZN is putting his fights on there. I know Canelo still has w/e deal he's got in Mexico which is probably a nice stack of money for him to. Canelo's upside is still gonna extend well beyond DAZN.

And we gotta remember, Canelo needs a good B side to hit a mil. Sans Floyd he's only hit it with 2 fighters. Chavez Jr (Mexican) GGG (Mexican Style).
Idk about that. He did 2M+ with Kirkland on HBO & that fight was a few years ago before Canelo hit the stride he's on now. Kirkland isn't mainstream known or anything thats for sure.

The least resistance you put between the viewer & a fight the more people are gonna show up. And all they need is for 3M people to watch Canelo's fights across 7 different DAZN platforms to make this work is the bottom line. Or they need half a mill across 7 different DAZN platforms who keep DAZN for a year off the strength of Canelo fighting there for this to make sense.

This sh^t makes all the sense in the world. People wanna watch boxing. And Canelo is more popular then most. And they are only in 7 markets now, but they'll be in 3x as many before Canelo's deal is done which is more money.

Making money here should be like Hearn promoting Anthony Joshua easy.

And I bet Canelo's upside is sexy as f#ck & could bump up his take by 50%+.

I will say this, for DAZN to keep pumping out this type of money, the Subscribers will have sky rocket to pay for all this stuff and for them to see a return in their extremely high investment. Lets see how the First 2-3 years goes and see how much Subscribers they have by then to help keep this thing afloat. DAZN is not giving out Charity and not expecting anything in retire. They're expecting BIG FIGHTS TO BE MADE to drive up Subscribers. So NO Canelo is not going to be allowed to take a bunch of Soft Touches until his contract runs out DAZN will expect maybe the Canelo Trilogy, Jacobs, Andrade and maybe even Charlo regardless of what Hearn is saying.

So Canelo is a huge signing but it is still A LOT of work to do getting the CASUAL SPORTS FAN to buy this APP and then somehow getting them to keep this APP!

#1 you didn't read where I said the average sports fan is accustomed to pre installed apps on their TV (Netflix, YouTube) and simply pushing a button and receiving service (Spotify). The average person isn't accustomed to mirroring apps from their phone to their TV. Or connecting cords from their phones to their TV. And the under 35 is as technologically illiterate as the over 50 because they're used up pushing one button and everything works.

#2 You have no idea what you're talking about.

This isn't a debate. This is a lesson
WRONG. Just Wrong. to get spotify or whatever app on your phone you go to the app store or google play. Same thing on a smart tv. No difference. People don't NOT GET Spotify on their phone cuz they can't go to the app store. Get real.

I agree it is easier if it is preprogrammed like Youtube but people do it all the time. Hell my kids are always getting new apps and they pop up on my phone cuz they are linked. Anyone can and does do it except most senior citizens.

In 10-15 years cable and satellite tv won't exist anyways and everything will stream. It used to be easier to use a VCR than a laser disc or blue ray and then they were easier to use than netflix. People get used to the technology and the old technology gets left in the past

This thread is trying too hard. So many people young and old have phones now. Why are you trying to make downloading apps rocket science? Many young people have no desire for cable anymore. Boxing companies arent looking for older fans anyways. If you’re 35 years old and never watched boxing, its not going to suddenly grab your interest and make you a fight fan. Youtube tv might as well pack their **** and go home based on your logic.

Even 5 year olds can download apps in 2018.

Kinda reminds me of VR, Google Glass, and other such "steps forward" that the consumers just didn't want.

That's the problem with DAZN, boxing fans weren't asking for another subscription service.
Sure people aka boxing fans weren't asking for another subscription service.

However, all that has happened is Dazn has replaced HBO with; no PPV, a lower price point, showing all fights on a card, having more events and dates. Dazn clearly has more upside than HBO.

That not exactly true. The average sports fan has also been streaming the sports they follow through apps.

Love it or hate it, apps are here to stay, and we will only see more sports, news, TV in general go to apps and streaming services.
