For boxers it's a terrible idea lol PPV is the only way the top guys can get their true value. It's the only benchmark they have to justify a price point. If you take that away then the fighters have little bargaining power with promoters for purses.

The only reason Floyd, Canelo, Oscar, etc. can demand those huge purses is because of PPV revenue. If the model goes away, purses will cap at 5M tops.

      • Idk how this is better or cheaper. I might buy ONE PPV every couple of years or so.

Why would I Subscribe to $10/mo or $120 a year for forever?

That's what Canelo average but on HBO. Imaging that!?

              • As long as CBS, ESPN and other big networks are in the game, PPV will not die. Hearn is just talking because as you've seen he immediately steered the conversation to Wilder vs. AJ. His hope is PPV and by extension networks are weakened, which makes his bargaining power stronger when negotiating with an American fighter. DAZN made a big move in signing Canelo, but as we saw with HBO, having one or two major fighters carrying a network was an unsustainable model that DAZN is currently employing, and they're spending more money to do it. Showtime had been squeezing HBO for the last few years, and they did it by allowing PBC to extend access to their deep roster to multiple networks. I'm interested to see how DAZN does, it will benefit boxing, but what doesn't benefit the sport, is people trying to squeeze other people out, or force them to sign a broadcast deal in order to get a fight. Good luck to DAZN, but like I said, the HBO model was not sustainable, so DAZN still has a lot of work to do. I think it's a little too early for a victory lap.

No he did not. it was a deal between Oscar, Eddie Gomez and DAZN executives a separate deal from Eddies Hern.

John Skipper, executive chairman of DAZN Group, knows De La Hoya well from his time as head of ESPN. They huddled up — Eddie Hearn wasn’t involved, though he, too, has a content deal with DAZN — and hammered out a deal that will afford Golden Boy up to 10 dates per year to feature the aforementioned fighters and other prospects like Ryan Garcia and Vergil Ortiz.
