He didn't need to introduce Ortiz to the UK fans, who had mostly never even heard of him, and tell them ... "This is Luis Ortiz. He is the mandatory challenger for AJ's WBA title"

Maybe you can tell me .. if Hearn wanted to avoid Ortiz, why on earth would he have done that?
The fight card you are referring to AJ and Ortiz fought horrible tomato cans in 2 of the worst mismatches ever witnessed in the ring.

That night Both AJ and Ortiz were prepared to fight, both had there gloves on, both were at the same venue, both had no one decent to fight, but Hearn still wouldnt put AJ in the ring with Ortiz. Tells you all you need to know right there.

      • So many excuses from Whyte fanboys who were just saying YESTERDAY that Ortiz was ducking Whyte! Jesus they are in shock today.

          That's crazy!

No promoter can make a boxer take a fight he doesn't want to take, and he definitely can't stop a mandatory challenger from fighting for a world title when a mando is ordered, especially not if he is working with that boxer on a fight by fight basis, with no long term contract involved.

When the WBA ordered their mando, Hearn would have had 2 choices.. either make Ortiz a good offer to keep him with Matchroom or allow the fight to go to a purse bid and pay him his mandated cut.

the typical argument i've seen on here is that if Ortiz was great, he would have beat Allen quicker.

AJ definitely didn't want the fight either. He still dont.

No body has every ducked whyte, he is one of the easiest to hit in the heavy weight division and doesnt have a big punch.

Typical hysterical UK hype around him since his ground breaking defeat of lucas browne. Im sure all the top guys would love to beat him up.

First .. the "horrible tomato can" AJ fought had just gone 9 rounds with Wilder and had Deontay doing the chicken dance at one point before he finally managed to get rid of him!

Second .. Ortiz was absolutely unkown to the UK casuals who are AJ's fan base. Molina had a higher profile than Ortiz in the UK because of his fight with Wilder.

What Hearn did with Ortiz was exactly the same thing he did with Povetkin after he took over as WBA mando .. put him on AJ's undercard against a well known UK opponent to build up interest in in fight between him and AJ.

I have no idea. Especially since Whyte went the distance with the guy. He may have been more prepared for Whyte, but all the same I can't see Wilder or Joshua letting a guy like Allen survive the distance.
