Americans celebrating the fact that there's no interest in American boxing....
Empty arenas so far for DAZN. Where's the "Sweet Caroline" atmosphere?

The fans are very different in USA and the UK.
Maybe it's a European thing, because the Polish fans made a good atmosphere when Adamek fought and were singing. i think it stems from football (soccer). A tribalism thing and togetherness. You see fans of football teams in Europe travelling all over their country and all over Europe to follow their team every week, getting drunk, have a good time and a sing song. it's a huge part of their lives, and most are pretty much married to it and it defines them. That mentality and way of supporting spills over into boxing too. The game/fight is sometimes less of a priority than having a good time, in a way.
i've been to games from NFL, NBA, MLB etc in USA and the atmosphere just isn't the same. Not to say it is good or bad, it's fun but it doesn't have the same passion and "us against them" and tribalism mentality that you get in Football in Europe or South American countries.
i think it's just a cultural thing and Hearn is expecting the public in another country to basically be something they're not.Last edited by TheBigLug; 10-08-2018, 10:53 AM.Comment

Probably so, but I would love to see him try to bring boxing to cities like Boston/NO/Chicago/etc. I mean not like others haven't tried in the past, but lets see what he can do. Boxing in the states puts up good numbers in certain cities like Memphis, yet hardly any boxing events take place there. NO is another city that brings in good ratings, and there was the Prograis' card there in July. Did solid numbers, but the venue was small.
This was actually one of the things I was looking forward to when Hearn announced that DAZN deal.Comment

who are you trying to fool? you havent hoped for him to have any success, which is why youve done this threadComment

I have a lot of problems with Hearn, one being his cowardice in making the Joshua-Wilder fight.
But putting those aside I did hope that maybe he had some fresh ideas and that competition from him would force other promoters to step their game up.Comment

OK? But it is a difference, you don't see American Promoters going into the UK talking about they're "Taking Over" and how they will deliver this and that in a UK Market they know nothing aboutthe way some of u yanks view uk sport is naive, u come across as high and mighty all knowing but ur clueless stop guessing that boxing is huge here and we all just lap up whatever is sold to us

You pack in 80K for boxing, how does that NOT express Popularity in the sport of boxing in the UK. Not only that but fans BRAG about how Popular Boxing is in the UK compared to America
Also when American promoters does business in the UK, they typically reach out to the Local Promoters in the UK, this is how it has always been

Has NOTHING to do with pretending to know WTF is going on in the UK, personally most of us YANKS really don't give a F_ck about what goes on in the UK which explains why No American Promoters really tried to branch out into the UK
