Someone translate what Peter Nelson is talking about

if you read between the lines, he's saying he thinks Boxing today is about money and little else. Boxing doesn't paint a picture of people's backgrounds, cultures and story anymore. it does not engage people towards fighters on a deeper level anymore. it's just merely become a money making product and that isn't his ethos. He wants it to have more impact than just being an entertainment product, and if it doesn't do that, he doesn't want to be part of it.

They could've created a Contender like show or just picked up The Contender. So basically hes saying he doesn't want boxing. I wonder if that's his decision.

What he's saying is he tried to make boxing more relatable by creating stories around fighters, ie. 24/7, interviews, presenting the backgrounds of fighters etc. More so than actually putting together fights.

As much as he killed HBO, the production during Peter Nelson's era was superb. It was incomparable to anything HBO had done in the past.

i don't know enough about him, what's his actual role? would he have enough clout to decide if HBO airs boxing or not?

i think he's basically just saying what i referred to earlier, that boxing today and those things he talked about no longer go hand in hand, thus they feel it does not serve a purpose other than to make money and that's not all they're bout. That they are not dropping boxing for financial reasons, but because it does not deliver anything deeper that anymore.

whether anybody believes that or not is another matter. HBO are in the business of making money as much as anybody else surely?

sounds like they're just re-assessing their budget and think boxing is dispensable for them now in favour of putting money into other things and he's just trying to save face, rather than just saying that's the case

HBO killed HBO Boxing. HBO has been starving HBO Boxing for twenty f#cking years if you've been paying attention. HBO has cut HBO Boxing's budget by 75%-80% since the late 90's, early 00's by most peoples estimate. Wtf did Nelson do cept give the eulogy at the funeral of the guy who's been getting poisoned for years?

But yea I think Nelson was answering some other question or misunderstood wtf Fat Dan was asking or was offended by Fat Dan's question if he legit asked him why he killed HBO Boxing & Nelson went on a whole tangent about some other sh^t, but I'm having a hard time with Fat Dan's angle to begin with & having a hard time believing Nelson was answering the question Fat Dan is claiming he asked him.

Hell man I seen the writing on the wall when Nelson got hired & he was the first guy or first guy in forever to be running their boxing arm who they made the VP of Sports instead of the President of Sports. That right there said their sporting focus was lessening.
