No hes not over-rated because he is the greatest boxer ever. He had it all, its just that people have different opinions and like to slag him off, making him sound worse than he is.

      Oh screw that....yeah.

Prime Ali would have beaten Tyson at any point in Tyson's career. I did misunderstand what you typed.

I think that any version of Ali except the late 70's/early 80's version would've slaughtered a prime Tyson. Sonny Liston had the same reputation and capability for destruction and was just as, if not more scary and intimidating than Tyson. And we all know what Ali did to Liston.

Yeh this is very true. In the book Muhammad Ali: His life and times, it says that Liston was the most feared boxer ever, no argument. A couple of people said it in their interviews for the book and i have heard many people say it before.

In response to anyone who thinks Tyson would beat Ali...prime Ali would have beaten any version of Tyson....any version. For that matter, even a 32 year old Ali would have beaten any version of Tyson. You'd have to get the post Manilla Ali in the ring for Tyson to win...and he still wouldn't be able to knock him out. Nobody ever knocked out Ali...and he fought and beat better fighters than Tyson....guys who punched harder, too. Shavers, Foreman, Lyle, Liston, Foster....c'mon.

No one ever knocked Ali out, true. But Holmes would have knocked him out if the fight were to go on. Also, I don't think Ali can "kill" Tyson. He would beat him, but certainly not kill.

The Ali that faced Holmes shouldn't even be a part of this discussion. He was old and drugged.

to chime in here, i suppose i would say that he is generally overrated. if people didn't call him "the greatest", my opinion would be different.

His legacy ... Greatest Ever! - I can very well accept this. Although I believe Tyson could have beat him, Ali established his name as a great great boxer, fighter and personality.

But is he, as a boxer, are his abilities over-rated? Often when mythical match-ups are being discussed, the prime Muhammad Ali is being described like an unreal fighting machine who never ever would and could have lost a fight.

What do you think, has Ali become more and more of a myth?
                    Nope.
your threads are slowly becoming very annoying, by the way.

Tyson would lose to Ali, but it would be a late round knockout or decision win and Ali wouldn't win every round.
