I usually support pulling out but in this case I’m sad.
why are people celebrating hbo pulling out of boxing?

There are WELL over 10,000 active pro boxers in the world. a single entity cannot manage that volume of fighters......What we're celebrating is one less split in the road that prevents big fights from happening.
Eventually there will be one dominant league, like UFC, and we'll get all the fights we want.
Whether it's PBC, Top Rank, or a merger, one dominant league is the best thing that could ever happen for US boxing fans.
HBO holding a few fighters hostage with no relevant opponents isn't in the best interest of boxing fans.Comment

I guess for the same reasons people like you celebrated when you thought PBC was dead.
I am not happy other than the fact GGG and Canelo can now fight guys I want-although I think they are both going to ESPN which means they will fight only ESPN associated fighters which will suck.Comment

pretty much this. the writing has been on the wall...if they aren't willing to fully commit to boxing, they might as well pack it in.Because they have common sense.
HBO has been in decline since Seth Abraham left, and its reached a point where having a network that has minimal commitment to boxing having fighters tied to exclusive contracts is bad for the sport.
Now these fighters will leave, go to networks that are putting a lot of money into boxing, and the sport will continue to thrive.
This is basic economics.Comment

HBO has still been unmatched with their production to this day. They had the best "big fight" atmosphere I've ever seen on a network. I'd get the chills anytime they had a big fight.Comment
