September 27, 2018:
For Arum and Top Rank, working with Alvarez obviously would be much more complicated than partnering with Golovkin. Beyond Alvarez’s superstar status, Arum has a contentious relationship with Oscar De La Hoya, Alvarez’s promoter and Top Rank’s franchise fighter for most of De La Hoya’s career.
“Todd will be talking to Tom Loeffler about the possibilities,” Arum said. “And as far as Canelo is concerned, he’s under contract to Golden Boy and they’re experienced enough, I assume, to make their own deal. So if they came to us and wanted to know what ESPN had to offer, we would tell them. But that’s up to Golden Boy.
“As far Canelo goes, we’d wait for Oscar to approach us."
February 24, 2011:
So Oscar De La Hoya exited the ring for a career in promotions and created Golden Boy which has taken off. The promotional company represents a high percentage of the best fighters in the world and they’re responsible for putting on some of the best events we watch.
Before Golden Boy existed, Bob Arum and Don King used to be the only real competition when it came to promoting top fighters. Now, De La Hoya’s gang seems to scoop them up. Given that background you know that anything rival promoter Bob Arum says about Golden Boy comes out of bitterness and anger. So take the following quote served up to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel lightly with a chuckle.
“[Golden Boy has] no background in boxing,” Arum told the paper. “They rely on Oscar, who’s a dummy. Oscar is one of the ******est guys I’ve ever met. I’m just saying what it is. The guy is really not smart. Forget just ‘not smart.’ He’s not just even average.”
Like I said, it’s complete bitterness from Arum, but the smack was so strong we had to share. Keep in mind that Arum will say just about anything to make himself and his people look good.

GGG to showtime is def not happening, WAY TO MUCH SMOKE on that network for GGG to join that stable, he literally would get retired by all the talent at 154/160.
ESPN is the far better choice for him, less talent, he can choose his opponents, he will make money, raise his profile, and add another 2 to 3 years onto his career.
Arum has a point here, its the perfect home for a washed up GGG.
Canelo meanwhile is the kingpin, he should now can roam free, Showtime/PBC would offer him the biggest possible fights, nobody else is close, and the Charlo mandatory at 160 would be the heck of the way to start the contract.
He could even fight Spence at a catchweight, and do a million buys easy.Comment

Then the other guys won't be being paid their agreed contracts or DAZN is gonna do far less than the weekly shows they have scheduled. DAZN also won't be able to sign any other large name because the budget would be all for Canelo. PPV existed for a reason when it came to these fighters who demand higher pursesComment

the original question was who had more money and ESPN has WAAAY more money than Showtime. The difference is with Showtime you buy the channel individually while ESPN is part of a package and the cable and satellite providers buy ESPN in the 10s of millions while Showtime is paid for by the user and doesn't have but 25% of the reach. That is why ESPN has way more money and has advertising revenueComment
