A golden boy show as well and we know spike was only acquired to be an opponent for the more popular fighters on their roster. The weigh in looked su****ious to me..but it goes without saying that spike is a domestic level.middleweight who hadn't proven himself at British or Euro level never mind good enough to beat lemieux who is a legit contender and former world champ..easy.fight to predict
spike proved himself with a beatdown of antoine douglass. GH matched him agaijst the #80 welterweight next. he coulda said no, but then they wouldnt have given him this HUGE opportunity. it was a 50-50 fight going in.

a guy whos never been knocked down dropped his right hand against a guy who knocks people unconscious with left hooks.

    bad form. amateurish mistake.

"Same-day weigh-ins got tossed by the wayside back in 1983, when Eddie Mustapha Muhammad came in overweight for a light-heavyweight unification match with Michael Spinks. Back in the day, this was a legit superfight with all the attendant hoopla.

Spinks refused to go through with the fight, even after Eddie proposed just making it a nontitle go. Spinks was pissed because, as he said, he sacrificed and trained hard to make the weight, and if Muhammad couldn’t bother to do the same, then screw it ...

The promoter, HBO, the alphabets and the commissions decided that in the future, all weigh-ins would be the day before, so that a cancellation like this would never happen again."

The Irish comment was all facts. The Irish have never won a war and are looked at as losers-drunks and just a poor pitiful group of no accomplishments ever. What is wrong with that just facts.

Well.. yeah. There is nothing new here. Lemieux has struggled making weight for ~3 years now. He's too thick for a MW, but doesn't have the skills or the the characteristics to fight well at SMW. Those 6'2" guys would jab him to death.

Spike only has himself to blame for taking the fight. Saunders showed how to beat Lemieux, and it's not by going toe to toe.

Which fight was that? So by having the weigh in changed to the day before, how does that change anything in ur scenario? By moving the weigh in back a day ur just getting less time to make weight? I saw JLC lose a million on the scale the day before. The card wasent saved. So are u saying that the thought was if a big fight had that extra heads up of someone missing weight the day before sum alternate could step in? So it was about saving cards? Making weight is making weight no matter which day u have to do it. How do we all not know about this pivotal fight that changed weigh ins? So safety isn’t the concern then why not have the weigh in a week before? Lots of time to get a replacement. Lots of time to put on weight. If u have more details I’m all ears, I’ll never claim to have all the answers. Just thought I did here.

Of course if both ends agree there will be a penalty and the fight goes on. The fight was Spinks vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. Spinks got pissed and didn't agree that the fight happens because Mustafa didn't try to make the weight. and the whole card was cancelled, after that then it started with the day before weigh in.

Turns out this was discussed about eight years ago on here. The fight u mention was talked about. But the official statement was that the weighin would be switched for the health and security of the fighters. They wanted to give the fighters more time to recover to make weight. Mustafa refused to lose any more weight due to his health. Especially having to fight that night. Who knows if he even wanted it. So I agree it was to get more time to negoatiate if weight wasent made, but that meant giving fighters a more viable chance to make weight if they know they have more time to recover.

They should also take into consideration when a fighter gains a lot of weight from the previous day.

If a fighter cant make weight in a healthy way then he isn't meant for that weight class.

An example of Gatti vs Gamache, Gatti had a lot of weight advantage, although he did the weight the previous day. He ended Gamache's career and he still has issues to this day. (mind you, I'm a hugeee fan of Gatti).
