    Tim Smith Talking PBC Deals

My guest on this podcast is Tim Smith, VP of Communications at Haymon Sports and the PBC. We spoke about the PBC's recent multi-year television deals with Showtime and Fox. We also got into what's n

Boxing Esq is a low key, but quality podcast & among my favorites. If you got 90mins to kill this is a good listen with Kurt Emhoff having Tim Smith on to talk the Fox/Showtime deal & talks about several interesting topics involving PBC.

Most interesting to me is he's saying Fox PPV will be a thing as well now (not sure if thats already known or not, but I've not seen anyone mention it) so this will probably be the platform for most of the biggest fights PBC is involved with now.

Second interesting is he's saying all the weigh ins & pressers will be on some Fox platform. Assume Fox Sports 1 or some lower grade version of Fox Sports, but he doesn't say specifically.

He also says they are a couple weeks from announcing some other new sh^t.

never heard his name before, but is he the official spokesperson for pbc now? If yes, that's a good thing.

Just look at hearn, who seems to give interviews on a daily basis. He is giving us headliners and information to talk about. PBC was missing a relatable figure, because haymon doesnt give any interviews.

Yea he's the VP of (get this lol) communications for Haymon Sports. He's had the job for awhile actually, few years iirc, maybe since the start of PBC or shortly after. He's been on Boxing Esq's podcast before & other people's podcasts in that capacity talking PBC sh^t. This one is just a lil more interesting since he's doing talking points of the new deal, Fox PPV & something else that'll be announced in a couple weeks apparently.

Yea I've been saying from the start PBC needs a mouthpiece who's media friendly & savvy. Tim Smith ain't that I will say, but he's a good guy & a decent enough liaison between PBC & the public.

Randomly I always thought Slick Richard was gonna be that guy, but seems like the Haymon/Slick Richard romance has calmed down post-GBP drama/takeover failure.

I don't know why they don't find someone who can fulfill that role even if they don't have the insight on PBC sh^t like Hearn has on Matchroom/Sky/DAZN happenings doe. In this era I think if you're not in fans faces all day every day they forget you quick. And Hearn's constant media presence insures he's never out of your thoughts for very long regardless if you respect the guy or hate the guy. And I'm sure he's well aware of that & he's certainly not a dummy. This is how he's gotten as far as he's gotten. He UNDERSTANDS how people think today more then anyone else in the boxing business with real power/influence.

Used to be a boxing writer for the NY Daily News for a long time. Solid guy. Now he works for Haymon in some communications capacity.

He wrote for the NY Times for even longer. Not sure why the maisntream boxing media doesn’t reach out to him more.

Tim Smith is one of these boxing writers I remember hearing of & reading articles from going back to my first days as a boxing fan. He's been around a long ass time.

He's a real good guy & I've always been a fan of him & his writing. And he's a pretty no bs type guy which I think most of us can appreciate. He talks some things on this podcast you wouldn't expect to hear from a guy in his role with PBC & is more like how a fan thinks of things with his takes on specific boxers & moves.

Just what we need, more PPV...
There are so few fights that warrant a PPV, they better be smart about which ones they try to charge us for.

it was in the press release but it was only mentioned in one sentence. everyone ignored it because they love free boxing. they wanted to keep the delusion alive and not admit they wasted 3 years of their lives saying that only to now support ppvs

That's good that they have the additional programming besides the fights.

PBC's biggest mistake was the lack of hype and not hyping future fights during and after fights.
