Yeah, Hearn must have offered Povetkin more than his mandatory cut.
And given the amount of money it makes for Matchroom in the UK, I reckon Povetkin's promoter would have had to bid a lot more than $23million to win control of this fight. And it wouldn't be worth as much to him as Wlad/Povetkin was, because Wlad was a bigger star in Russia than AJ is.Comment

No it isn't! I'm slavic myself but the economy in Russia in general is not doing wel.
1 US Dollar is almost 70 Russian Ruble.
So it is not easy to stage a fight in Russia.
There is more money in the UK marked.
If you talk about UK vs. Russia then UK will win 10 out of 10 times.
When was the last time a big UK or US name traveled to Russia to have a fight?
I don't think a $50 million event is out of the question. I'm just surprised Russia never bid for it with everything going on right now - and I think Povetkin is getting more than 25% for the fight.Comment

Good point. I agree Povetkin must be getting paid well.... I really think - if Povetkin's team wanted to - they could have scared Hearn into a massive bid on the fight. I wouldn't put it past the Russians to go to 30-40 million for this fight and turn it into a national event.
He must have looked at Hearn's offer, compared it to what he thought he could make from the fight in Russia, and gone with the better option for him and his fighter.Comment

Povetkin's promoter is an oil magnate, possibly the richest man in boxing, so there's no doubt he could have afforded to bid that high. But you don't get to be as rich as Ryabinsky by throwing your money away blindly.

Maybe they're short of cash after the World Cup and the current war games going on? lolComment
