Shyte fight against the number 3 in the world, but Wilder against a shot Fury who is fat and in poor shape is better? Povetkin is ranked higher for a reason.

Joshua needs to learn from Lennox and not be over confident. Always respect your opponent. Don’t listen to fans!

And given the amount of money it makes for Matchroom in the UK, I reckon Povetkin's promoter would have had to bid a lot more than $23million to win control of this fight. And it wouldn't be worth as much to him as Wlad/Povetkin was, because Wlad was a bigger star in Russia than AJ is.
Good point. I agree Povetkin must be getting paid well.... I really think - if Povetkin's team wanted to - they could have scared Hearn into a massive bid on the fight. I wouldn't put it past the Russians to go to 30-40 million for this fight and turn it into a national event.

So it is not easy to stage a fight in Russia.
There is more money in the UK marked.
If you talk about UK vs. Russia then UK will win 10 out of 10 times.
When was the last time a big UK or US name traveled to Russia to have a fight?
They just hosted one of the best World Cups ever and the WBSS final. Russia can get money for events like this very easily.... there are many billionaires in Russia that have got rich from Government favours and could pay for this out their own pockets.

I don't think a $50 million event is out of the question. I'm just surprised Russia never bid for it with everything going on right now - and I think Povetkin is getting more than 25% for the fight.

Povetkin's promoter is an oil magnate, possibly the richest man in boxing, so there's no doubt he could have afforded to bid that high. But you don't get to be as rich as Ryabinsky by throwing your money away blindly.

He must have looked at Hearn's offer, compared it to what he thought he could make from the fight in Russia, and gone with the better option for him and his fighter.

I agree. I just really thought Ryabinsky and the state would have bought the fight. You know what these Russians are like, all about the motherland. They often shell out for big events to make their country seem great, go all out to put on a face that Russia is a powerful country, and right now it doesn't get bigger than getting the English HW champion to Russia and hamming it up to the world.

Maybe they're short of cash after the World Cup and the current war games going on? lol
