Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua: Heavyweight Division Will Test Usyk's Will

Anthony Joshua appreciates Oleksandr Usyk's skills. While respectful of the unbeaten Ukrainian's boxing ability, Joshua also cautioned Monday that it'll take more than skills for the undisputed cruiserweight champion to succeed as a heavyweight. Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs), the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion, was asked about Usyk, a potential opponent, during a conference call to promote his mandatory WBA title defense against Alexander Povetkin (34-1, 24 KOs) on September 22 at Wembley Stadium in London (Sky Sports Box Office; DAZN).

Usyk will give a lot of size up and one punch can change a fight but I'd favor him fairly strongly against the top Heavyweights even Joshua. His mobility, speed, skills and IQ are light years ahead of the Heavyweights.

We just don't know if his chin will take a punch from the likes of Wilder, Joshua, Ortiz, Povetkin, etc. He has the skill to beat any of them but he could still get caught clean.

Usyk has the juice he should just keep cleaning house at cruiserweight until the right HW fight presents itself no need to rush it.

Does Usyk have the punching power to trouble the top Heavyweights though? He is more skilled than Joshua and waaay more skilled than Wilder but his lack of size and power could be a problem against these super heavyweights.

You could say the same thing about any of them doe. They could all get taken out by any of the others, if caught clean. That's why the HW division is so exciting.

Usyk has fought as a hw in wbss.
He outclassed the much bigger Joe Joyce and several others, he knows how it is to fight a hw
