how come ortiz couldnt achieve anything as an amateur?

Hes talked about like the most skillful, technical fighter out there. Yet he won nothing notable at amateur level and lost to solis five times. He was an amateur till he was 30 (rumours he was older) and won no major titles in almost 400 fights. He was in his boxing prime as an amateur.

His amateur career wasnt even close to joshuas (olympic gold, world championship silver) and joyces (Commonwealth gold, european gold and olympic silver) and they were amateurs for a shorter period of time, joe didnt even start boxing till he was 22 and joshua only had 43 fights. Lets get it straight, u act like these guys arent on his level skill wise yet ortiz was well below these guys on the international scene.

To be fair, with Luis ortiz he was In his forties as an amateur the younger pups outpaced him. He started pro aged 51 and has done alright for himself not great but not bad either.

Amateur's is a young mans game, everything is taken to eleven with these guys for the 3 rounds. But I don't know Ortiz's story.

He is getting hyped up by deluded Wilder fangirls hoping to give Wilders laughable protected resume some legitimacy. Ortiz is nothing special, not at all. A very old past prime contender whose best and only decent win is Bryant Jennings.

His style wasn't suited to the amateurs. All those early days sparring with Liston and Floyd Patterson got him stuck in a certain style and didn't help him when he switched to the amateurs 30 years later.
