VIRGIL HUNTER - Where was all this Media concern For Rigo Jumping Two weight classes
Collapse

Many fans today are making such a huge deal of one good boxer having a few pounds weight advantage over another good boxer. In the old days nobody gave it a second thought. Also because we has so many weight classes so few pounds apart fans and the media always say how many weight classes a boxer is moving up instead of how many actual pounds a boxer is moving up. Rigo moving up two full weight classes to fight Loma sounds so much more dramatic than just saying he is moving up 8 pounds. In the old days 8 pounds was one weight class not two. Mikey weighed 149 on fight night for Easter while Spence weighed 156 on fight night for his last fight. If Spence fights Mikey at welterweight Mikey will probably weigh more than 149 on fight night and their fight night weights will be even closer. Again everyone is saying Mikey is moving up two full weight classes forgetting Mikey very recently won a world title at 140. In times past going from 135 to 147 was considered moving up one weight class and it was done all the time. Loma deserves full credit for betting an excellent but slightly smaller opponent in Rigo. Should Spence beat Mikey he also deserves full credit for beating an excellent but slightly smaller opponent. That is how I see it anyway.Comment

I screwed up the numbers, which Larry pointed out, and I was happy to admit to (118/122) but the story wasn't a lie.

Don't even know why this is even a conversation topic.
If you're so concerned about fighters getting hurt,
then this is not a sport for you.
Switch to tennis or golf or something.
You don't belong here.
I'm not a fan of this Hunter guy.
Don't even know what he does as a trainer.
Don't take him seriously doe.Comment

Good point. Rigo is still a good fighter for his age but there’s no way he was going to win! Looks good on lomas record though.spence shouldn’t take the fight inho bit cowardly reallyComment

I don't get the shade being thrown at Mikey and Spence .
First off the Spence / Crawford fight is Nowhere near happening so that's that.
It's obvious Mikey Believes he can beat Spence ( even though not many else do ) Mikey doesn't seen the type to drop names for hype .
We ask some of our best fighters to Test how Good they are by moving up after clearing out a division . Most take a soft touch first . Mikey wants the Boogyman of 147 ! The guy Porter , Thurman and DSG don't wanna fight right now . And we're hating for him daring to be Great ?Comment
