And Mayweather didn't become a big star because of who he fought? So fighting De La Hoya didn't help to make Mayweather a star huh? He did it all himself?

Floyd was already P4P #1 and a name internationally, largely due to The Destruction of Arturo Gatti, Chico Corrales and Chicanito Hernandez. The De La Hoya fight made him A-Side, but that's different.

Spence doesn't have a name like those on his record and if he did it wouldn't matter. What sold the Gatti and Corrales fights was Floyd's trash talking leading up.

I heard people on here call out guys like Hagler. Lest we forget, if you ask a casual to name a Hagler fight they'll probably call out Sugar Ray. Why? Because Sugar Ray Leonard trash talked and marketed every fight to perfection and created drama for half of them.

Eubank Sr. had very few names on his resume. But he's known for his snooty attitude when trash talking which made you want to watch him get his ass kicked. That and Toney calling into that show with him and Benn where Toney led the trash talking.

B-Hop and his "I ain't losing to no white boy!" made you want to watch it happen.

Thurman and his "YA BETTA NOT DUCK ME THUN!" to Paulie is why people are critical of him now.

Marketing. Drama. Confrontation. Sell the fight. Convince me you guys don't like each other, even if you're friends.

Fights like Spence/Peterson - a good scrap - come and go because there's too much respect and not enough drama. Nobody will remember that fight. They'll remember Brook trash talking Spence only to end up taking a knee in his home town.

You mean other than exist in an era where nobody will fight him and he only fights a couple times a year?

This generation will be remembered as a wasted generation of talent imo. These guys are getting into their late 20’s and have still only got a contender or two on their records.

Such a shame. Love Spence, not a hater. But it’s the truth. These guys are not fighting in a system that can maximise their potential.
