He should be what he is. All he needs is better opponents.
There's one thing that holds Errol Spence Jr. back from being great.

https://********/3k48CX6Mjy4Broner's name attached to fights - even with losses - sells. Why? Promotion. Now, people are paying to see him get his ass kicked. But the point is they're paying.
Shannon Briggs was all in the news (aka casuals exposure). Why? Promotion.
It sells. That's my point. Backing it up is what keeps people coming.
"Everything is tailor made for Shawn Porter...just like that WBC title. Whenever you ready to give it up."
I've never - not even from Floyd - heard such a poignant line thrown during a boxer interaction.
Spence doesn't have to act like a thug, but there's been times he's in the vicinity of these guys and he's smiling and making jokes. No! Tell them to their face that it's #StrapSeason and you're coming for them. Tell them you'll call Al Haymon and book the fight to get them to stop ducking. Tell them SOMETHING.
Like when Charlo was like he knocked out everyone he sparred with, right there next to Spence? Come on, don't let that crap fly. Say something
The hell you talking about?Comment

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Weak.
I want confrontation. Drama.
Spence should have been up in his face: "Knock me out right now. Let's see you prove what you just said. And if you don't, I'll flatten you right here."
No, I don't want to hear "they're friends" nothing.
Like when the other Charlo was talking all that scratch about Jacobs behind his back - Jacobs runs up on him and your boy gets punkified.

Porter and Thurman have sparred together, grew up together, and share management. Many of today's fighters did.
At the end of the day, it's the fight game. "boy" and "stablemate" goes out the window when there's titles and money on the line. That requires turning it up to promote fights.Comment

No, that's completely different. They aren't trained by the same trainer nor do they train with one another.Porter and Thurman have sparred together, grew up together, and share management. Many of today's fighters did.

And if they do end up fighting one day then cool. But sure doesn't look to be happening anytime soon.Comment

The only thing holding him back right now is that he's only fought one top guy. And that fight was way closer and more competitive than any other he's had, so we still need to find out more about him. It's not his fault either because I believe if it were up to him he would be fighting one top guy after the next, but regardless of whose fault it is the fact remains that he hasn't fought enough top level competition yet.
You don't need to be loud and arrogant to sell tickets. Look at Manny Pacquiao- the guy barely even spoke English. Same with Golovkin. These guys were quiet and humble outside of the ring and killers in it, and they became big names in the sport just fine.
Spence just needs to keep doing a great job in the ring and once he gets the top welterweights in the ring with him he'll have the opportunity to become a real star.Comment
