first of all ward went silent for 4 years when ggg was around but go check out wards offer to ggg...once again laughable. a 2 fight deal where ward wanted another tune up first(he just fougth paul smith). a two fight deal when ggg was waiting on a fight to fight basis for the wbc champ to fight him since he was mandatory. did ward try to fight him when they were both without opponents? nope! he wanted ggg to prematurely delay the canelo fight...uh yeah thats ****** and you know it. fight ward instead of canelo...just flat out dumb. its just silly the misinformation campaign that he pulled off. if ward really wanted to fight why not offer to fight next? if he wanted to fight why not stay at 168 and put pressure on him after each time ggg takes step aside money? nope never did that but its ggg's fault he didn't pursue a fight with a guy who wants 50-50 and can't draw sh-it when he has much better options coming up.

If an Eastern European had a "win" like Ward's in Kovalev I and then ended the re-match with a vicious and intentional low blow barrage to the balls he'd be hated by the same folks who worship him now. It's hard to deny facts.

I think Ward had elite talent, excellent boxing IQ and was very skilled but it was disappointing that he always had to fight dirty, clinch so much. He'd take advantage of privileges he was given and was about as boring a pound for pound level guy as I've ever seen. In a way he's more disappointing than John Ruiz in the sense that Ruiz did what he could with a limited skill set whereas Ward chose to fight in that wretched way despite the ability to have had a good career even sticking to the rules.

I'm glad he's retired but if he really wants to come back he should fight Usyk. Usyk is the antithesis of Ward. He's talented and he doesn't resort to clinching, headbutting, low blows etc; etc; and he's fun to watch. He will also fight anyone and doesn't care where, when and about all the extra stuff. I remember a few posters in this thread (Ward backers too) who had already labelled him a ducker and a coward because he was scared to go to Russia (which would have been justified given Ukraine-Russia politics) but it was all hearsay and he came out and said so and went to Moscow and won with zero hints of controversy.

Usyk would likely take that fight in Oakland too.
